I believe I need to direct you to this post...

Also, this information from the Codex:
Rescuing items and pets from a backup
We keep hourly backups for the past 3 months, and daily backups for the past year. This takes at least an hour of Coordinating administrator's time, plus the concentration and coordination to find your items and check for various irregularities, hence the price. This is only possible if you know the exact precise time of when you last saw the item. It's not possible if it was "sometime last week".
- Initial price, to find the items: 100 excelsior dollars
- Each item or pet: 10 excelsior dollars (11th and further items are free)
Sorry for your loss.

Just out of curiosity, do you still have to pay the retrival fee if it turns out that the dissaperence wasa bug / glitch and was in no way your own fault?

Well, if it was an item and you died due to a server crash or disconnect, then since items can be insured, this wouldn't be the case. I would however do a free recovery if the shard disconnects, and you just put down an item to lock it in your house, but by the time you tried to say "i wish to lock this down", you were disconnected (and the shard came up an hour later and you already had to go away from the computer by that time). Only if it's a shard wide disconnect, since those aren't very frequent. This is not if only you have been disconnected from the shard.
Keep in mind that, if I had to undo the damage of every shard disconnect, it would probably take a whole day to recover all the items, which if they were simply insured, wouldn't be lost. So in that case, i know it's not your fault, but it's not my fault either (and I'd be the one doing all the work). Would be possible if i knew there's just going to be 1-2 disconnects a year, but sometimes they come in bursts which would mean a lot of work almost every day (on top of already quite a lot of work).

If a Admin moves you against your will. The item you were about to lock down doesn't get locked down. Is the Admin responsible for the items becoming lost?

Well Reese... That can go a few diff ways... If lets say you got jailed, and the item you were about to lock down, then No, Admins are Not resposible (prolly cuz you should not have been doing yourself...
Now as far as Nicks case goes, thats an odd case for a pet to be deleted ... Considering he fed it often, and One to pay 10m for, of course not gonna misplace it.. And also wiling to pay ED's for, which sounds like desperation is in tact...
Hope you get it Nick...

These were the original applications done by each and every member of LMC. This had nothing to do with going to jail. I was in the process of setting up a house to house teleporter when i was summoned away. These applications are irreplaceable. The page i sent afterward was deleted by the GMs then i sent another and a GM replied +Colibri will handle it tomorrow. Colibri was on at the time this happened, I had just finished talking to him about a previous page. All it would have taken was for the GM to let me look. Now +Colibri has to go out of his way to because the GM wanted to show true power.
