Top 10 Explanations:
1.
Any Weapon Skill* - Good way to start making money as a new player is the rat quest and (once you have enough Str and Dex) the cheapest way to complete it is to just melee them. Train up to 75 in the training room and hopefully you can start taking on the rats from the organics quest for some gold. Most weapon skills increase Str and Dex.
* Preferably train either Swordsmanship or Archery since you get a new player Katana and Bow, but can honestly be whatever the player desires.
- a. Tactics will increase automatically so not sure if you would count this as a "work on" skill. Skill increases Str and Dex.
b. Parrying will also automatically increase if you equip a shield with your one-handed weapon so not sure if you would count this as a "work on" skill. Skill increases Dex and Str.
2.
Spirit Speak – Clerical spells are your primary source of healing so max this out as soon as possible (may want to macro this while increasing your weapon skill). Skill increases Int and Str. Increasing Int will make training Magery skill faster.
3.
Musicianship – Needed for Peacemaking and if desired Provocation. Should be macro-able while increasing your chosen Weapon Skill and Spirit Speak. Skill increases Int and Str. Increasing Int will make training Magery skill faster.
4.
Magery – Hopefully by now you will have a full LRC suit (does not need to be elite) via player donations or buying one using your rat quest proceeds. Magery is your likely source of getting around in Trammel and will save you lots of time getting you to your exact destination rather than walking from the world teleporter. Skill increases Int and Str.
- a. Meditation will increase automatically so not sure if you would count this as a "work on" skill
b. Focus will increase automatically so not sure if you would count this as a "work on" skill
5.
Hiding – Ever need a breather (restroom break, phone call, a pestering significant other, etc)? Hide it out. Very useful skill to just call a time out when you need (beats a Kit Kat 9 out of 10 times). Skill increases Dex and Int.
6.
Chivalry – Drastically increases damage out via: Consecrate Weapon, Divine Fury, and (for the more daring player) Enemy of One. Take on those earth elementals with ease I say. Hopefully you now have a 100% LRC suit with high/max resistances. Skill increase Str and Int.
7.
Anatomy – Increases weapon damage. Will eventually become useful for Healing. Skill increases Int and Str.
8.
Peacemaking – Ever in a pinch and need a second to run? Use peacemaking and turn your tail. Also useful if you want to be aggressive with a single target. One-sided love is awesome when you attack them and they don’t attack back. Usually greater successful % than provocation. Skill increases Int and Dex.
9.
Animal Taming – Let your pets do the dirty work, avoid getting hit. Will require animal lore as well to be useful. Will increase your damage output, but also is a lot of hassle to control several pets. Skill increases Str and Int.
10.
Animal Lore – Required to control your pets. Skill increases Int and Str.
Runner-Up Explanations:
-
Healing - Definitely a skill you would want to increase later on but falls outside my top 10 list due to: (1) low dex as a starting player and (2)the difficulty of buying high dex items for affordable prices
-
Wrestling - Underrated skill in my opinion, but helps with less disrupted spells and, perhaps more importantly, is easily trained to 75 in the training room (just leave your comp on overnight, don't worry your weapon won't break). Trains both Str and Dex so hopefully when you wake up in the morning you'll have +32 stat points (given an 8-hr sleep schedule). Falls outside my top 10 list because: (1) my top 10 list already have several skills which raise Str and Dex and (2) the other skills kind of work with one another better.
-
Provocation – Definitely fun to provoke two balrons to fight one another and reward the winner with the final few blows, however it fails too often (or has 0% chance of provoke) on higher end monsters.
BTW, I agree with Larsa I think this thread is a good one to start. Hopefully we'll get more viewpoints.
