Hello All - need some advice please

I used to play on Catskills back in the day and was in TBA (The Britannian Army) guild. Last time I played was maybe 6 or 7 years ago, on a free shard (maybe Shadowcove, I forget really). So I am rusty, to say the least.

I'm not sure if I want to do much adventure yet so wondering if a Fletcher/Carpenter can make it ok on Excelsior. I was quite the Lumberjack/Fletcher on Catskills but only so-so in adventure. I've always been more into the business/crafting rpg rolls but no idea if that works here or not.

Can some of you please offers some advice? I'd like to know just how high one can go in Lumberjack (not sure I saw the skill listed but it must be here I'm sure) and other crafting without being uber mage or whatever. I was able to avoid getting killed too often by sneaking in and chopping or else having an escort in the past... so I also would like to know if any guilds ever recruit crafters for what they can gather and make... or would the crafter simply be a charity case who can't offer much that can't be easily gotten with adventure/gold. :) For the record I'm more into pulling my own weight and helping others when possible.

Sorry for the long post, just so much to ask, I'll stop here. Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok, maybe my post was not so clear. My real question is this...

Can someone get up to 120 Lumberjack or Fletcher without being uber in adventure (mage/melee/etc.) skills? Can this be done without having friends to help you out or do you need help. I want to play the game as crafter/gatherer without having to level up to uber skills for survival. I expect to run for my life sometimes but still be able to get to that top tier tree.

Thanks again. BTW a 120 scroll is cool but what good is the skill if I can't get to the tree?

Yes, you can play as a crafter if you like without having to kill one single mob. You can start by doing beehives, it gives good gold once they are at their max. To get to LJ and Fletcher to 120 you will still need gold to buy the 120 ps' since without it you will only reach GM.

There are also LJ and Fletcher's gear.. which combine will get you to 150 in skills (Legendary level 120 + gear 30 = 150). Now, if you want to make good bows/crossbows you might have to kill the highest elementals.... they drop runic bowcraft tools or if you want to avoid fights then filling up bods is the way to go.

Again... you can be a 100% crafter without having to kill one single thing, but a little bit of excitement doesn't hurt as well! Good luck and if you have questions pm me in game or ask in public chat... most folks here are very nice and helpful.

also, this is a pet shard have your pets kill so you don't have to :). actually the runic tools kits that elementals drop are a necessary if your gonna be a merchant too. elementals are summoned with you use a gargoyle axe on a tree; it will summon the same elemental as the resource you are getting off the tree.

Well, other than the crafting skills you will need a bit of magery if you want to cut specific trees for coloured wood (ie. recall LJing). About 60 should let you Mark and Recall without much hassle. As most resource runebooks in libraries are marked in safe locations (without hostile spawns) you can have no combat skills (or any other for that matter) and still make it. Though in fairness i need to say that lvling combat skills to a decent level takes a single evening in the training room (100% safe, though the skill cap is 75 there). This means you can stop worrying about every skeleton and spider that comes along.

Other than fighting yourself you can use pets too - they are pretty tough here and some don't even require much animal taming to use.

Oh and remember - NO SKILL CAP here, so unless you want to strictly RP a Fletch/Carp no combat character, you can safely raise all the (useful) skills to 100 (or even 120 if you're willing to spend gold on a powerscroll).

As for escorting - most active guilds wil have players that will help you out, though in the long run being able to defend yourself is easier. Though having someone point out the "do not go there" area is very useful.

I started out as (and still am) a cfrafter so if you need any hints you can pm me in-game ([pm ILSANOR) and I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can (though I'm not a vet). Also - this is a very friendly shard, so asking in global will get you an answer too (most of the time), so don't be afraid to seek knowledge. ;)

also remember fel side gives you double the resources per hour. <---i like to say per hour because what happens is that you drain the mining/lumberjacking spawn faster (get 2 per attempt). but if your trying to summon elementals i suggest doing that tram side....ie more attempts, but fel side ele's drop 2 x resources.

I also notice that no one mentioned Bulk Order Deeds (BODs) for an aspiring crafter. Gets you some gold, fame, and the rewards can be pretty great. You might be able to get some runic tools from BODs, but yer best bet is to kill special resource elementals.

These elementals are found by using gargoyle (axe/pickaxe/knife) instead of the usual harvester. they will sometimes spawn. I usually bring help to res me, as some of these buggers one hit kill.

Other ways to get runic tools without killing mobs is to simply go shopping at player vendors.
