+Coli Your staff seems to punish all
Earlier due to someone spamming, the world chat was taken away from everyone for about 10 minutes. I don't know about everyone else but I play to talk while I'm doing my random killing/grinding/crafting. If your staff takes away chat then how many more things will be taken away from everyone just because of a few bad eggs, I know that everyone suffering will cause a decrease in playtime and voting of the shard, just a thought though.

Re: +Coli Your staff seems to punish all
See problem with that is, if the staff just jailed the person, that would be it, however turning off world chat because of someone who created a character that was barely 10 minutes old? Yeah that's a great use of power and punishments.Gwendolyn wrote:inb4 privileges speech.

Not that I have to defend myself, but okay...
I took down global chat for 4 minutes, not 10:

9.10. 03:34 Dramoor: Lol
9.10. 03:38 Scarlet: Hello World
9.10. 03:38 Dramoor: hi
Sure...there may be some seconds in there, but you can count that as many times as you'd like...it's not 10 minutes.
There were multiple people getting heated up and frustrated...some thought it would be funny to egg him on and even started following suit, just to mock him. Except for a couple people, the global quieted down after I enabled global chat again. The server didn't crash, game play wasn't hindered, cats and dogs did not start living together...the end of the world did not come.
Perhaps the time it took creating this post would've been better spent playing the game on your weekend?

Re: +Coli Your staff seems to punish all
Definately a good thing in my opinion.
Re: +Coli Your staff seems to punish all
I come here for a rational discussion now, and I'm not gonna bend over backwards just cause you have admin privileges and say your right, not at all. I am going to say that I think it was a rash/ill thought plan to block all of global for the few people who could have been temp jailed to learn a lesson, I see a new person join the shard and for that 4 minutes, they can't speak they can't do anything and then global starts back up again with people scared to even talk for fear of another quiet time for no reason and leaves, we already see a decline in server population at the moment. You can do what you want, you get the admin rights, but try to think calmly instead of hurting us all.+Veritas wrote: There were multiple people getting heated up and frustrated...some thought it would be funny to egg him on and even started following suit, just to mock him. (And trying to mock me with how I should spend my free time and/or play this game, again shows the brash nature)
Re: +Coli Your staff seems to punish all
The mood of world chat often takes on a bit of a mob mentality. When a fair number of people get riled up, then it can (and often does) spread like wildfire until many players are acting up. In cases like that, it's almost always better and more efficient to give everyone a brief time out to take a bit of a breath and get their heads on straight again. Jailing half the players speaking in world chat would not only take a lot of our time, it wouldn't really stop other people from joining the bandwagon. And while we're in the process of jailing those players, the rest who we haven't gotten to yet would still be running rampant, inciting more people. We did jail the worst offenders at that time, and the problem persisted. Hence the next measure - shutting off world chat for a few minutes. We jailed the few who continued after it, but for the most part it stopped after world chat was brought back.
While I sympathize that you feel wrong was done to you, world chat was disabled for no more than four minutes. As far as I remember from that night, you weren't carrying on any discussion that was interrupted within those four minutes so I fail to see how you specifically were wronged. Regarding new players joining, well if one did join in those four minutes chances are they weren't trying to world chat yet, or even noticed it was disabled. Almost all new players spend their first hour or more in game wandering around, checking things out, and learning the controls. If any new players were paying attention at that time, they would have seen that our shard is actively staffed, our rules enforced, and our world chat monitored.
I don't know when "the shard population is dropping because of _______" became the new favorite way to try and bring the staff to heel, but it's a silly argument. The numbers are visible to everyone, and they have not dropped on any long term scale. There will always be a week or two here and there where the number of online players is lower. It does not indicate a significant loss of player base. It indicates people have things to do for those few weeks. Or am I to believe that every year at Christmas we lose half the player base?

Ah yes...and the rational discussion now is that my squelching the global chat for 4 minutes is reducing the shard population...
And yes, I am brash. I assumed that position long ago. I have no problem being that guy, but it tends to be the people who are out looking for trouble that have the problem with me.
Closing this thread and deleting all others that follow this specific incident. This is stupid, move on and enjoy your game.
