Unable to attach files

I have been trying to attach an excel file I created in Excel Starter 2010 but have been unable to do it. The forum keeps telling me that the extension xlsx is not allowed. So I converted it to xls and again it says it isn't allowed. I then tried to upload it as a pdf and again not allowed. I even inserted it into a word document and tried that way, again failure. Any clues on what is going on? I am pretty sure I have uploaded an xls file before and I know others have.

Seems that people have compressed the files into .zip or .rar formats, which you'll then be able to upload as an attachment.
