Hit a wall, what to do?

Im at a bit of an impasse, Ive been playing here for a few months now and have been having a lot of fun. I had goals to meet and knew what to do to reach them. Ive reached those goals now and Im at the point where I need relayers to move on. Problem is, without them I cant do anything new. Most things Ive been doing have become relatively easy but cant find anything new to do. The only thing I can do now is spend months grinding away for the gold to buy ed's so I can get a single relayer, plus the 70-100 hours of grinding to level that single relayer. Ive tried running a shop to get gold but no one was buying my underpriced crafted items.

Ive hit a wall with my goals a LONG way off now, is there anything in the game that can be challenging and rewarding at this point? If not then I can see why this server seems to be dieing compared to a year or so ago. I know I can donate and get the eds that way but as the game stands now ( no goals beyond grinding) I cant see myself staying which is a shame. Ive made some friends in my guild that could last a long time.

First, that isn't a problem with this shard.. it is found in almost every game. The higher up you get the longer it takes to achieve the next goals. Welcome to gaming :)

It really depends on what you consider as fun, sometimes I mine or chop wood, sometimes I collect 100 million gold, sometimes I collect oints. Just basically whatever is my flavor for that moment I do, good example is the other day had some playing time and spent it killing para wyrms in fel. There are people who love crafting, personally I would rather poke my eye out.

If you want to play long term, you are looking at it the wrong way. Once you got a full set of relayers, then what? Same problem that you have now, if you look at it that way.

For me, there is one main thing that keeps the game fresh, breaks, I gotta take 1 to several month breaks to keep the game fresh. I also find this game has endless goals for me. Expand your house with more slots, deco that house space, work on the goals of your guild (recruiting, or organizing things, or buying guild resources like world tele, trainer, NPCs, Waterhouse etr) get into breeding, do GOC, gauntlet, champs, mix it up. My personal favorite goal is saving up gold for the auctions. You can join the Youth Centre, open a shop, organize player run shard events. For me, I personally can't stand just mindless grinding for gold. You can find young players and teach them things, apply to staffe, start an alt. my main point is, don't set a goal as your reason for playing, have goals sure, but find something that interests you at the time, and have fun with it, in a month or two something else will seem fun, then do that. And have many goals! Oh, sometimes I make good quality bows just to get bows out there with my name on them, even though I actually loose money while doing it lol just have fun bro. Think up something completly new to do maybe. One guy I know had writting contests with killer prizes, just so he could build a library, this game has endless possibilities.

Hopefully you got some ideas out of that, and maybe got you looking at the game a little different.

Edit: sell/give away all your stuff then come back to the shard anyways. No wait, that turned out to be a bad idea ;)

there is only 1 dungeon in this game that you must have relayers...umbris camp. all other dungeons can be beaten by using normal in game items. i have a set of normal in game gear and i've done goc's. kill proxy, ran through labby. etc... your suffering from something i call uoburn. or burned out from uo. even if you went to a different shard the same thing will happen. as melkor said take a break a couple months, and then come back. :) i've been here for almost 3 years now and i still find things to do. :)

Sure there is a lot of things left to do. If you are starting to walk or contemplating about the relayers path, then you only have three options. Pay someone to do the leveling for you, buy leveling deeds (100ED's per 10 levels + bonus points), or level it yourself. It is very boring and time consuming but it gets better when you are at relayer 4-5.

You don't have to or it is not a must to have relayers to enjoy this game, I know of a player that has been here for a while and he can take most of the contents in game without a single relayer *cough* Cygnus *cough*.

Some other activities you might consider:
1. Have you also tried doing beekeeping? It stills gives a 'quite' relatively amount of gold
2. Do the GOC quest?
3. Filling Taming BODs (Geo Fizzle's favorite hobby)
4. Make a Bio?
5. Renovate / Expand your home?
6. Help a newbie?
7. Fishing? (What I do sometimes when I feel sick and tired of leveling)
8. Crafting? Smithy, Tailoring, Bowcrafting....
9. Doom runs?
10. The sky is the limit when it comes to your imagination.

So yeah! There are a lot of things to do... it just depends on what YOU want to do? If you really want to improve yourself with relayers then you gotta have a plan in how to achieve that in a fun way and not make it frustrate you. I agree with you that grinding gold to buy ED's takes longer than it used to be. Granted that the high ticket items are not longer "worthy" as many things has dropped in price in today's market. e.g. imps, bios, gocs, ps scrolls... Don't give up! Try to find a spark within the game... besides UO has survived the test of time cause there is always something to do!

I Just want to say,
Way to go guys :D
This is the first "I'm bored here" post that didn't start a "more content", or "nerf everything" argument.
And everyone's reply was extremely informational.
With the plethora of posts that come up on this topic, I believe we should make a wiki with these answers...
"What to do now" post, if you will :P

Oh, and my idea, that i think people haven't mentioned, I like Fel T-Map hunting when uber bored for something different. You have to walk all the way out there, making a fun trip to some places. Sailing to Ilsands in Fel for maps can also turn up some interesting Mobs as well :D

--First off, in about 6 weeks I will be celebrating my 5 year anniversery and I only have one relayer, it's a goc shirt into the regular shirt slot, so obviously I am either easily amused or there are plenty of things to do including socializing to keep the game fresh. --Secondly, the above posted replies (minus murder/suicide) are right on. --Lastly, since I haven't seen a repost by Deedra on this subject, we may be just wasting our breath on this subject.

Okay, so the previous line wasn't the last thing. :P One of the things I have done was to see what I could do against places that I previously thought were impossible; like soloing monsters that used to wipe me out is seconds. Developing tactics can overcome some deficiencies in relayers. It worked for me to keep it fun, so give it a shot.

Never strive to be too uber. The idea that I can die at anytime from almost anything makes the game exciting. If I become invincible to 90% of the game, then most likely my days would be numbered here.

Interestingly, I am amazed that you have 'hit a wall' after only a few months. I don't know about the others, but I didn't hit a wall for a few years. A little curious what your gameplay is like. Are you a "I want it all, and I want it now" type of player?

I agree with not becoming too powerful to keep the game exciting.

Problem is that would seem to make some areas difficult to conquer, but not impossible.

I think people are often inspired with the awesome arsenals arrayed at Brit Bank and such lol.

A lot of people have been through various waves of donations which pretty much eliminates any "walls".

It boils down to how you like to play and what makes it fun for you with respects to what your wallet size is.

You will get it eventually as all of those roads lead to Rome :)

You cant of covered all content in months. It takes years, you could try setting yourself challenges, that you have to max a skill for to complete, or start collecting, or raising money. BOD's are fun to pass time especially taming.

You could try runs without your best gear, and needing tactics, you can start auctions, etc. There will be plenty for you to do!
