Umbris Camp Revamped Discussion

Post by ModvsQvintvs »

I think Umbris was way more fun before the changes thats a sad sad sad place now.

Went from Total Overpower to Total Sadness feelings. :displeased:

All this for too much drops in gold? I wish you would have removed all gold and all ointsments and all experiences in there instead of doing what was done, its so much drastic changes its not even the same place and its not more fun.

After trying it for some time now, it definitly not looking the same. There were alot of effort put into this but now i see no points of going into that place for now, destard in trammel got better drop than this camp and umbris is like alot harder than this i know it is not intended to be a farming place, but at this point it is useless to go there, the drop is sad, healing have been reduced drasticly, it is intended for older player but the loot dont worth the effort in my opinion. Challenging but what a waste of time for the amount of time you have to invest to go through. Thats my opinion, i dont want to influence other player, just go there to make your own opinion! Pi0NEER

I have everything relayered and I can handle it just fine. Guess you got a few more to get. Anyways it's certainly not a farming place anymore. Would love to see a hard place that can be farmed but does a check or something that doesn't allow you in unless you have a dozen relayers or so. It's true, I can easily go to a number of dungeons and make a significant more than I can there. Only benefit of going there now is for the quests. They said it would be revisited and maybe some more quests added in. Since it's a quest area I wouldn't expect to see any sort of farming added in.

V and I have been discussing a few more tweaks. As we mentioned before we're going to add more quests to that area, one of which will probably give gold and ointments. We are also tossing around the idea of decreasing the repeat delay for the umbris quests and possibly bumping the gold drops back up a smidgen. We don't want this place farmed 24/7 like it's on rails as it used to be (I'm looking at you Modvs), but we do want it to be a challenging and rewarding place for the well geared players to come and test their skills.

I think there should be an Umbris monster where all players that enter stand a chance of randomly being eaten by an odd Umbris monster who happens to pass by. *sigh*
Everyone have patience.. It takes time to dev this stuff. It's still in development and I have much faith that +V will kill us all soon :) And very much so looking forward to it

There is a random monster that will kill anyone in there...well more than one. For starters the assassins are pretty beastlike especially with the pathetic healing we can do in there. Not to mention if you get 4 shadows on you you're pretty much toast.

I think they should do the same with healing like that all over the shard actually. Less time for nose picking :/
Seriously, this really gets on my nerves. Ever since Umbris, Sgail and Wrong were shut down, everyone was depressed because of the lack of challenging areas. Now that new challenges are thrown into the areas that are being reopened (following hours put into them being in the triple digits) everyone complains about the challenges and I see very little input in this thread containing solutions. Just complaints. Sad.
One more thing.. Umbris is HIGHLY managable by a solo player with -0- relayers.. if it's not then I must be a freak because I'm speaking from experience. All that it requires- Ignore the negative whining and moaning in pub chat and threads like this, go out and PLAY the game.

V and I completely agree with you, lol. We firmly believe in less nose-picking, as you put it, and more active and thought-provoking gameplay. Any of you who have ever played another MMO can attest that the end game isn't supposed to be easymode; that gets boring far too fast. Games prosper best and are best loved when the end-game content is still challenging and still requires a player to put thought and effort into how they play.

Personally, some of my favorite MMO gaming memories (Everquest and WoW) aren't of raids which were so easy as to be boring. They were of raids that were so difficult I felt actual stress responses when my tank's health got low. The end-game was most fun and most memorable for me when my gear didn't make the end-game raids easier, it only made it so I could even SEE that content. It was so exciting to see my heals crit for 10k+ on the tank just in time to save the entire raid. That was hugely challenging, it took a lot of thought and planning and effort, and my gear simply made it possible for me to be viable. It didn't make it so I could macro my role in the raid while watching Buffy.

We feel that a large part of the dissatisfaction running rampant with our veteran players right now isn't so much that there isn't any end-game content, but that the content currently implemented with intent to be end-game is just too easy still. When I go around to the players online and find someone parked on their rump taking 10 mobs in Umbris to the face with no problem, that's ridiculous. Heck, when I find players running mobs out of the camp in order to kill them without any danger, that just makes me grumpy. These methods require no thought, no skill, and no effort to play and in my mind are a huge problem for our shard. A huge problem that V and I fully intend to remedy.

That said, the plan is to implement these healing changes across all of the end-game content from here on out. We took the healing down drastically for Umbris as a starting point, to see how it was handled by the vets. If it looks to be too much, we'll bring it up a little until we get the right number. Then we'll have an idea how this diminished healing affects gameplay and can modify the healing in new areas accordingly. Sgail will probably have a different healing modifier than Umbris, for example.

I think healing could maybe be brought down in end game areas to take someone with 220+ dex the amount of time to heal as it normally does someone with like 125 dex anywhere else.. IMO it makes it realistic but you would actually need end game stats to heal at all with bandages.
The challenge of becoming capable of even maintaining in an area that eats me alive, to me is well worth the game. Make Umbris hard.. and SGail insane. Pleeeeeeeez. Instead of bowing my head and posting, I'll be in there beating that place until it's empty. That's just me though. Who cares about the gold or the ointments I get so much of elsewhere.. I want a brutal, impossible and often frustrating challenge where I do lose my stuff sometimes and go through 200k in insurance every time I go.
*EDIT*
One thing that I've always noticed about areas and events.. The corpse stones. I'd vote yes to getting rid of them. They remind me of when I was a small kid and my mother would dust me off when I fell off of my bicycle.

Perhaps turning the areas into something more like a "Daily Quest Hub" that you see in other MMO's. While using the mentioned gold/oints as a reward. It allows the vets to get the challenge they want, the loot they want, but limited by their daily cooldown.

Personally I'd love to see a raid type setting thay Nyx described. Something entirely unsoloable, 12 relayers or not. Grouping up is what makes an MMO.. an MMO.

Maybe fighting with up to 10 monster is ridiculous but it was making my day everytimes.

Now fighting one monster and dying it make me feel that I have wasted two years to gather the gold (...)

The fun I had in there was the immense feeling of overpower.
The fun we experience now is running a healing macro an watching the tank friend.

I remember dumping pets cos it was so boring to heal...
