Pet Questions...Again....

me again =]

So, I want a pet that looks more interesting than a mule =] I read somewhere that with breeding, you can get basically any pets stats to max, like 1000hp and such. I dont beleive this to be totally true? Becuase I know i would be rolling with a nasty Dog/Crane combo or something fun like that =]

I then thought of the imps, but i dont understand them? Just trying to educate myself through the help of you fine UO friends =] the Wiki and stuff doesnt have much information on them, i mean, it does, but doesnt?

I guess in a nutshell im wondering what kind of cool looking pets i can get with good stats so i can start hunting things better than rune beetles and fan dancers =O. im making tons of money and rare items doing it....but just not much fun. Im working on stealth though so i can scout some good places, but last night i found i couldnt kill a collector of souls with my one lonesome mule, even though hes awesome, thanks to jecks =]

It's true. I've seen maxed bunnies, sheep, dogs, ostards, you name it. But since the stats can be maxed on any pet, mules win by the bonus of poison immunity, rideability (is that a word?) and the pack. The maxing process is quite time consuming (look for a post by... KnitePrince I think? he explained all the hassle with maxing pets), so most players do it for the best available pets, or none at all (buy what you need).

Imps are probably way outside your price range for now. An untrained one costs a lot (from 200k for 270 str ones up to 1m+ for 360+'s) and is not really combat ready until you invest some oints into it - say, 400 oints at 3k is 1.2m. Pretty steep. BUT the do have the pack instinct, no stat loss upon death and do double damage, compared to nobles. Plus they have higher str than any pack instinct animal - 270-370 range, instead of the regular 250 max. So most definately the best choice for a wealthy high-end tamer.
cool looking pets i can get with good stats
None. ;) As the market is today you either have to decide on looks, less stats (perhaps breed your own pets) or the limited choice (mules, nobles, Cu Sidhes, imps) of pets available on player vendors. You *may* come across someone who breeds novelty species (I can only recall Highroller, whom I haven't seen for a long while) but your chances are low.

ps. On a side note - it'd be nice if there was a "Pet Appearance Change Deed". I wonder what pet look would be the most popular then. :D

yea a pet relook deed thingy would be awesome! lol

my thing too i was kind of thinking was like...i love the Hiyru's! they look awesome, have a ton of strength, but low HP and thats their weakness! i mean the one i have has like 200 more strength than my mule, and it was one that i simply tamed from the wild, with no breeding or nothing. So i guess, for example, if i breed some Hiyru's would they turn out to be awesome? and tthose Cu Sidhes, where can i tame one of those? i do like them, and are Kirins on this server? i still dont know my way around....im just wierd LOL, i like to have one pet, that i can ride, and hop off it to kill stuff without shrinking and unshrinking stuff. I would do possibly two pets, tops, but i see some people with 3-4 at once, i cant handle that, i just have a strange play style.

A few additionals:

"mules win by the bonus of poison immunity, rideability (is that a word?) and the pack."
Mules don`t have packinstinct, but a bagpack.
Just to say, so it won`t be mixed up.

There is a table for the stat-differences of pets with or without packinstinct.
http://www.uoex.net/wiki/Pet_Leveling

A single mule or noble CAN manage a balron, if maxed.
Sure, it takes a lot of healing and also time until the bally is beaten, but its possible.
Maybe helful to assist your pet by a bow with HLA and HLD.
Also heal the pet by cleric-spell. Just if you run out of mana, additional heal it by bandages.
Take care if so, not to step too close to the bally...he may flag you as target.

Basically its a question of the dmg, a pet can deal, the slots he uses and maybe his special abilities like poison immunity.
Mules are always nice against all types of mobs, who poison.
(like Poison-eles, acid-eles, Shadow-wyrms, etc.)
Nobles work well against all who don`t poison or require specific type of dmg.
(Example umms need energy-dmg to be beaten)
Cu`s deal nice dmg and also have a bag, but sadly needs too much slots.
Frenzied ostards (the more agressive version of all ostards) deal the most dmg
in the ostard family and can be compared to nobles.
Thats why some call them "noble for the poor".

So far I saw a lot of ppl breeded some intresting pets, my guess more for hobby than for hunting. Bunnys, frogs, cows, lamas, sheeps, mongbats...and a few other, who are usually the weakest pets in the game.
Its true funny to see someone wiping out some ballys with bunnys (did that myself with 2 maxed ones lol), but my guess, others may have some more funny ideas for sure.

Hiryus, Kirins and Cu`s lack all on the same part...they use up too much slots.
So a 5-pack-nobles or mules will deal more dmg in the end.

Cu`s can be found at twisted wield, west of ilsh spiritually shrine.
Kirins have a few spots, like kirin passage.
(Remind, unicorns can only be used by female-, kirins by male-chars).

Hit lower Attack reduces monster's to-hit by 20% for 10 seconds if it processes.
Hit lower Defense makes it 20% easier to hit a monster for 10 seconds if it processes.

These work similarly to Hit Chance and Defence Chance increase (respectively), except they are negative, timed and work on the monster. And, technically it's not a +20% flat bonus, but a 20-point modifier applied to the (complex) to-hit calculations, but for the sake of simplicity - it's 20%.

I wouldn't use HLA on your weapon. Unless you plan on not advancing to the point of utilizing Rpd. Or wasting time on a weapon to throw out later. It will only save you maybe 1 band-aid per go. Since your pets will not have any DCI added to them *Humanoid Bios are an exception*, it is not needed on your weapon for pets. This is tested on many levels of monsters while hunting using pets, and not using pets.

While I am at it lets go with some stats

A Mule will do 75% Physical Damage and 25% Cold Damage, Immune to Poison, Has a Backpack.

As a Noble will do 40% Physical and only 59% Energy Damage, Has Pack Instinct, and Runs.

So those are your difference between the two.

Overall, I would say that if you want to do a lot of hunting, and don't want to keep buying trans-location powder for your pets, or to keep recalling to store your gold in your bank...Stick with mules.

If you don't mind doing the quest to get the powder to use on your bag of sending, or purchasing the powder directly, don't mind recalling back to bank your gold often. Nobles could work for you.

Get a mule because it has a backpack to carry stuff and it is one heck of a tank.
Get 4 nobles.

Send the mule in first so the opposing force focuses on it, then send in the 4 nobles to do massive DPS.
Stick the loot you do not want to carry on the mule, then mount it.

Rinse, repeat.

The only reason to have "a transporter" with you, are items like looted weapons or leather/scales. Regs can be stored in keys, gold be send to the bank.
If you are on a gold-only-hunt, there is no need for a transporter.
Also, a 5-pack serves better dmg than a 4-pack.

Usually you can carry 20-25k gold until its time to send them to the bank.
(vets can carry far more by their added stats, just talking about the regular ones)
One charge for the bag of sending (translocation powder) is about 150-175 gold.
As long you don`t want to do the solen quest yourself and save the costs too.
IMHO, its good to do that at least one time to gather 1k powder for the first go`s.
Also serves a bit money and maybe one of the solen semi-rares.
That will hold until you have send about 20-25 mill to the bank.
Easy to decide yourself then, buying the next powder easy or repeating the solen quest.
