House Drops
House Drops
Does anyone else miss the announcements that a house was due to drop? I've been running around looking for a place to put a little house when I can afford it (Blacksmith BOD Reward Display House) and there are so many houses sitting with a foundation and nothing else. It seems like such a waste..........................
Re: House Drops
There are no announcements and as far as anyone knows they only drop when +Colibri decides to manually drop them.

Re: House Drops
plenty of spots to put houses though.
Re: House Drops
If I wanted to put a tiny little house in the shade of a 3 or 4 house 18x18 monstrosity I'd be fine. Finding a place for an 18x18 just to display crafting gear, ,with a little space around it is really hard!

Re: House Drops
After a few hours searching, I finally found a place to cram in an 18x18 house. Phew!
Re: House Drops
I always have a little giggle when people are so unnerved to have to search a few hours for a house spot.
If this was OSI, you'd search for months, find not even room for a 7x7, and then spend 10 mil buying a 10x10 plot from some other player
Colibri does have plans to improve the house drop system so that houses will decay on a more regular schedule, but that is likely a few months away still since there's so much to do in preparation for the facets.

Re: House Drops
I have a few different thoughts about housing here and I'll try to say it all in a sensible order, heh.
There are house spots available all over. In fact, many of what are the most prized house spots on other free servers are wide open and unoccupied here on Excelsior because things like bank stones and shops off of world teleporters invalidate their significance. Also, every player isn't guaranteed or entitled to their own 18x18 house spot. Those who came before or worked harder usually have more. I have a level 10 petrified yumi, some have level 100 ancient yumis. I managed to snag one 18x18 but my other is a 7x7 custom house and that's fine.
That said, on other servers including OSI, there was an extremely lively housing market. Land baroning could make you very rich. Here on Excelsior, there's almost no housing market at all. Very rarely I've seen people try to sell high-end custom houses but that's it. So the land hoarding here doesn't serve the same purpose at all, people just plan on sitting on their spots for infinity. I wouldn't be the one to deny players the right to more storage or more houses to deco, but I can't imagine that players with 5+ non-connected houses are decoing them all or maxing out their storage. This is why, as Zalia said, there are so many big house plots sitting around with just a few items on them or nothing at all. That's greed just for greed's sake, not to mention unsightly as can be even if the storage is being utilized - might as well dot the landscape with dumpsters. And that part I disagree with, keeping house spots for no reason at all. You could argue that the owners could someday utilize them, but that's just semantics since in reality they won't. With the average players online at once being what it is, I would think there'd be enough houses to jam up one facet pretty tight. But all these facets covered? It's crazy and can't possibly have been the original intent of the system.

Re: House Drops
Maybe they are keeping the house spots cause they want the spot and can't afford to build yet? None the less, the system here is good, you said yourself there is plenty of spots. It seems to me you're just complaining for no reason. If you want someones plot, how about you PM them and offer to buy it?Unbeliever wrote:I have a few different thoughts about housing here and I'll try to say it all in a sensible order, heh.

I wasn't complaining, I was stating observations. You're very argumentative, I've noticed that before. I'm not interested in that though. Please concentrate on the topic instead of the commenters.

Re: House Drops
Me and my family are currently sitting on 3 essentially blank house plots: they may well be unsightly, but we do plan to connect and decorate them when we can...gathering ED's is not always the easiest thing to do! There is an undeveloped plot I have PM'ed the owner about for over a year - they are not going to sell it and it would seem not going to decorate/build it. Meh...it's their option. Just gotta let it roll....!

Starfish & coffee, maple syrup & jam. Butterscotch clouds & a tangerine, side order of ham.
