Shard Events

Post by Ironbender »

I see today on the town crier, that yet another Shard Event is going to be happening. I'm excited, as I love to attend these events... and then I see, that yet again, it's going to take place on a Sunday Evening.

This is the 3rd event in a row (that I know of) that is taken place on a Sunday Night. Now I'm guessing this is a good night for the GMS, and/or several players, and I'm in no way saying that events SHOULDN'T take place on Sunday Night. What I am hoping for, is that some events can happen on other nights of the week as well.

I, as I'm sure others do, have obligations Sunday Night. For me, it's a work night. So either I am unable to attend at all, or if it starts early enough, I'm rushed through, and don't really get a chance to enjoy the hard work put into it.

Please spread the events out during the week, to allow people unable to attend event on Sunday nights, to attend an event every now and then.

Thank you.

Oh, I fully understand that the GMs have to be available to do the quests, I'm just hoping one of them can free up some time on a night that I don't have to work for a event or two. Or at least spread them throughout the week more.

I know I wont be able to attend EVERY event, and I in no way expect them to schedule them around me. But I've missed out on the last 3 events cause they have all fallen on the same night of the week.

We held an Onslaught last night, which was a Saturday. Our most recent event before that was on the night of the 7th (8th shard time), which was late on a Saturday night and an impromptu event, not scheduled in advance. Before that was V's Touria event which was at 5pm EST on a Sunday. Requiem has held numerous hide and seek events midweek. Enough of them that he's been keeping our ED box for events relatively low and I had to pull out the ED I will need for an October deco event in multiple batches, as it restocked!

We can't schedule events when we aren't available. Mine and +V's schedules do not really allow for much in the way of midweek events, and Friday/Saturday are our only nights to really go spend any time together away from the desks (Yes, we do have lives away from Excelsior), so we won't schedule events on those nights if we have other plans. When we only have a handful of hours to be at the desk during the midweek evenings, those hours are better spent working on our facets since those are projects that can be paused and picked up with no trouble at all. An event, however, is a living thing. We have no way to tell for sure how long an event will last, what delays or problems will arise to make it go even longer. Almost all "designed" events (meaning we have to create or interact with event areas and spawners, handle shuffling the players around etc. - Generally anything more in-depth than trivia or storytelling) run far longer than we expect, and take at very least 4 hours of pre-event work. Further, most of our players are more available on the weekends, as well. So that's just when the majority of in-depth events will be scheduled.

When we schedule events in advance, we first look at our own schedule to see which day seems the most likely to be one we won't have anything unexpected arise that would cause us to have to reschedule; and then we try to schedule it in such a way as to maximize the number of players who will be able to attend. That's the very best any staffer can do.

Anyway, it's unfortunate that your personal schedule hasn't allowed for you to attend a few of the most recent events, but our schedules are as they are and the events can't run themselves. Hopefully you'll be able to attend more of these events over time.

When I stated the last 3 events, the 3 I had been speaking of, were the one that happen just recently, the Auction, and +V's Touria event. (All of which took place on Sunday Nights.)

Wasn't aware of some of the others +Nyx mentioned, cause just like the GMs, I can't be online every night either.

This wasn't intended to be a rant, or a complaint, it was more of a "Dare my Bad Luck" kinda post. Working 50+ hours a week, plus family obligations add up fast, and since a lot of the events have little to no prior notice, it's almost impossible for me to reschedule those obligations in time to attend the events. I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open and hope for the best in the upcoming future.

I would recommend bookmarking the events calendar. Almost all of mine and +V's events are scheduled in advance, and show up on the calendar even before they are officially announced. :)

I would love to bookmark that calendar, I didn't even know there was one. So where is said link located? I searched for over 45 minutes and found nothing on the website, wiki and forums.

Is it possible to change the calendar time to match server time?
I'm not sure what "central" time is. To me that means the time in Adelaide but I am pretty sure that ain't the time zone your referring to.

I believe if you add it to your own calendar program it will automatically display in your native time zone.
