Crafting - is it worth the effort?

Post by Grunk »

I joined this server a few weeks ago because the lack of PvP suited me. I figured I could RP and work on making an Orc crafter. I got him up to Gm Mining, tailoring, and carpentry while working on smithing and fletching. I was decided to hit up the shops to see what other crafters sold to see what the market wanted. ... It appears they don't want anything crafted. :(

Did I waste my time? Or is there a market for someone who actually makes things?

Please let me know.

The crafting here is affected by several factors. Server being eight years old + unlimited skill cap = low cost, high end equipment and little to no market for gathered resources. I'm a crafter/gatherer at heart; I know how you feel. But there's no mining/selling iron ingots and GM katanas here and there's nothing for it.

It's not all bad though. You can max out your crafting skills and start doing BODs. You can also jump in on crafting and selling platinum jewelry and the like on a vendor. Either one should provide you with plenty of gold, even if it doesn't quite give you the same old feeling.

The classical crafting is a dead end here, at most you can about as much as the raw materials cost. Even if you do manage to craft something worth a hundred 1000s you will use up so many materials/runic charges that you'd be better off selling them in the first place. It's a nice hobby and a break-away from hunting, but in no means it will get you bags of cash.
