A problem I see with Bios

Post by Melkor »

It's more of a problem with the way they work actually. The way they work in regards to the rules of the shard.

Example. You are going to travel in Fel to point A and B. You need your Bios at both points. You use them at point A, but point B is a far walk. Your Bios are slow to move with. I used to leave them at point A, then when I get to point B I would use my ball of summoning. However it is not in accordance to the rules to leave them unattended.

Being able to shrink your bios would fix this, however I know there is some resistance to this. I suggest allowing us to "hide" our bios (similar to the hiding skill for us) so they won't interact with spawn while they are left somewhere.

I don't know if this applies here but according to codex's changelog on 15th of december "CHANGE Pets will no longer attack or be attacked if the owner is more than 100 tiles away."

I was jailed yesterday for leaving my pets at doom champ after the champ was finished. So I think it's still not allowed. This post is in no way disputing my jail punishment, it was only 2 tasks and I'm already out. But it made me think.

Everyone does different things, but specifically i was thinking about using my bios at Fel Tera Keep (something i often do), then wanting to use the sparkle system. Since TK is in lost lands, you can't recal out, and if I can't leave them in TK while I travel I would have to bring them with me through the sparkle system, which would be too long and too much of a hassle, the solution is either don't use bios at TK, or allow us to Hide or shrink our bios. Perhaps there is another solution, but I can't think of any.

If you're running from a previous champ toward a champ you plan to summon your bios at, park the bios away from the champ spawn zone, run to the new location and summon them as quickly as possible. Generally speaking we aren't going to cite you for that. In your case you were at an entirely different champ, hidden for quite some time, with your bios at another champ. You didn't run there and summon them to use them right away, so they should have been returned to the stables while you waited for the next champ.

Perhaps someday in the (far) future there could be a way to force your bios to hide and go "passive" so they don't pop out to attack, but that's not all that likely. It would take a lot of effort and scripting and hassle for bios to be shrunken since it would have to account for items they are wearing, not just an animal and its stats, which are all held in the props of the pet itself. Coli has time and again decided not to put the effort into making them shrinkable, because all pets need some sort of malus anyway.

I wasn't referring the situation I was jailed for, as I mentioned. But after being jailed I starting thinking how I can avoid it in the future.

However since you brought it up. I finished Doom champ, I was waiting (hidden) at destard, my guild mate was waiting hidden at another champ. Since my bios were at Doom champ area that had just finished, I knew they would not come in contact with any monsters. I didn't call them to Destard because the champ wasn't up yet and I wanted to go AFK. If i called them and went afk and the champ popped, that would seem to be a violation of the rules. Also, if the champ my buddy was at popped first, I would go there, so it would be pointless to summon my bios until i needed them. Again, since there were no chance of my pets coming into contact with any monsters, I felt i was well within the rules. I was very surprized to find myself in jail when i returned. Again, I'm not disputing it, its not a big deal.

Knowing now that I was acting in violation of the rules, since i was in tram, i could have easily brought them back to my house to wait, which is what I'll do next time. My concern, and the reason for my post was about doing the champ at Tera Keep and then going to check ice champ, since it's a long walk to ice from TK. I'm glad to know that in the future I can leave them at TK until I run to ice. Thanks.
