Relayers and meditation

I got a couple of dumb questions about relayers and meditation, just as the title says.
1. If I level up a huge 2-handed XXX(Sword / Haly / The Sunday Times / whatever) that I can't meditate with, then relayer it as a cloth garment / jewelry, would that allow me to meditate with it on?
2. Same example but relayer it to a heavy metal chest piece.
2b. What if the weapon came with spell channeling? Would that make any difference?
What I'm really asking is, how much does it matter what the start weapon is vs. what it is relayered into.

From what I understand, it assumes the properties of the item it's relayered into. A War Mace becomes a Halberd, etc...
So if you take a non-medable piece of armor and turn it into a shirt, the basic properties of a shirt allow you to meditate so you would be able to with the relayer.
How does a weapon prevent you from meditating?
As for spell channeling, once it's relayered, it becomes basically useless since you won't be holding the item in your hands any longer. Spell channeling only effects what you are holding, nothing else. I don't believe it affects meditation. Spell channeling means that will not "drop" the weapon/shield you are holding when cast a spell.
Relayering to a spell channeling heavy plate would still prevent meditation since the armor itself isn't med-able.

Correct. You would need a Mage Armor property present on the gear piece. The exception to this requirement is if you relayer to a cloth-based wearable, leather/studded leather armor, or any of the elven armor types.

Thanks guys. The responses makes a bunch of sense, sadly. I was hoping to be clever and only level up weapons that had Spell Channel, so I wouldn't have to buy those mage armor deeds. Guess I'll have to stick to +V's recommendations and only use light armor(not that it makes any difference, other then cosmetic).

Have you ever tried to meditate with a 2 handed weapon that haven't got a spell channeling property? It simply unequips it, much like when you cast a spell.

But mage armor property cannot be added to a relayer (weapon)

Never noticed, probably because never actively tried to meditate, just do it passively (use up mana, and just wait until it recharges).
But then, that's what Focus is for anyways, so "meditate" in armor and with weapons.
