Player Auction Interest

Post by Pariah »

Hello all,

I know this has been discussed, executed, and even panned in the past, but I am a man not easily deterred. I am thinking of running a player based auction and I'm coming up with a standard rule set. I'd like to hear your thoughts as well. First, the questions:

1. Would you attend a player hosted auction?
2. Would you be likely to bid on/purchase items at a player hosted auction?
3. Would you be likely to sell items at a player based auction?
4. How frequently should a player auction be hosted?
5. Preferred day/time (in EST please)?

Now on to the rules.
1. Items must have a minimum estimated value of 500k. That is not to say they will be sold for 500k, just an estimate of value. I don't want to spend 5 hours auctioning off 20 Taskmasters, etc.
2. There are no reserves on items. You place the item up for auction at your own risk. You lose all rights to the items at a minimum time before auction (aka 1 day before to prevent people from pulling an item right before the auction). All sales are final. Feel free to weigh in on this one, but it's not something I would likely change as it becomes a disincentive to attending...
3. There will be a minimal auction fee (aka 1%, 10k per item, TBD to cover volunteer time, etc).
4. Auction items will be locked down and viewable at the auction house 2 days prior to auction. All items must be turned in at least 3 days prior to auction. There may also be a maximum number of items considered due to time constraints.
5. Bidding will be handled by the auctioneer at specified intervals (aka the 1gp rule). We won't spend an inordinate amount of time bidding 500,001 gp, 500,002 gp, etc. I will do my best to maximize bids on an item, but we may have to speed things along.
6. Journal/portal will be the final say on identical bids. If you really want the item, bid more.

That's all I have off the top of my head, but let's hear YOUR thoughts. If we have enough interest, I will try to get something together in the next week or so. Thanks!

Something more affordable would be nice to see auctioned as the "real deal", ancient titans' and such, goes for millions and millions... Once per month or two maybe?
