say if there are 2~5 hit area effects on a sword (ex. physical area 100%, fire 100%, on)
question is
if there are more than 2 hit area effects, will they trigger together upon a successful hit? or just one of existing random hit area effect will trigger?
Q: multiple hit area effects
Re: Q: multiple hit area effects
Each area has a possibility of hitting. I have a War Hammer with all 5 hit areas at 10%. Some swings hit none, some hit all 5, most hit somewhere between.
Re: Q: multiple hit area effects
oh cool! thanks for your information!!
say a monster takes 10 area damage from each type of hit element area.
for example, when 1 hit fire goes off, the monster takes 10 area damage. now, when hit 3 elements (fire, poison, and physical) trigger, the monster takes 30 damage in total?? (10+10+10)?
curious of this mechanic, please let me know what you've observed~

Re: Q: multiple hit area effects
I was wondering about this too! Good to know.
I was also wondering if SDI affects area hits?

Re: Q: multiple hit area effects
The damage of each area depends on the resists of each mob. But yes, the damages total up. For example, if you had all five areas the hits on mobs could look like this:
Hit Fire Area 10
Hit Cold Area 6
Hit Physical Area 8
Hit Energy Area 9
Hit Poison Area 7
For a total damage of 40
Those numbers can, and will, change depending on resists. The damage can add up fast if there are a lot of mobs around.

great. ty Xavian!!
Re: Q: multiple hit area effects
And in my experience, area effect damage is best when used on a weapon with Whirlwind. Because you can hit up to 9 targets with whirlwind, so there can be up to 9 different triggers for the area hit.
Lets say you have 9 enemies surrounding you, and you hit whirlwind.
If your weapon has 50% fire area, then you'll more then likely get 4-5 hit fire area dmgs to all enemies within the area.
so rather then having them do 10 dmg to each enemy, you are going to do 40-50 dmg to each.
Hence why on my Blaze of Death, I put 4 different area spells. The damage can be quite destructive when using whirlwind on multiple enemies.

Re: Q: multiple hit area effects
Unless you're standing on a target, it's only 8 mobs. However, even at that, the potential damage is huge. If you whirlwind all 8 targets and all 5 spells hit on all 8 of those targets, your spells hit every mob in the area 40 times. If each spell does 5 damage to every mob, that's 200 damage each, every swing. This is a VERY unrealistic situation, however it is possible. Whirlwind with hit spells has the potential to be devastating...
