Joining your shard

Hello, I'll be starting here as soon as the client finishes downloading. So I decided to introduce myself while waiting. I am Bobby, I go by Bastian in UO, hopefully that isn't taken! I chose this shard after looking through so many others. It doesn't seem to have a high population, but hopefully some good people! From all I have read in the forums it looks as though this shard has mature and friendly players, albeit the regular drama with any shard :) I like the no pking aspect, my last shard seemed hung up on that. I just want to find some nice folks to hunt with, chat/hang with, and whatever else Excelsior has to offer. I'm bummed to be starting over and losing my full spell book and the bit of money I started with, but I think the change will be worthwhile. A couple questions: Are there any newb guilds? Is there a young player program? See ya in Excelsior in a bit

Welcome to uoex :) We generally have roughly 175 people online, with ~250-300ish regular players. I think you'll find that the vast majority of them are cool peeps. There are a couple of guilds which cater specifically to new players, I'm sure they will approach you once you are in-game. We have a new player dungeon that you can access for your first three weeks that has newbie-specific quests and training opportunities. After that you'll want to do Mistvale which is accessible until 120 days. You can find info about these and other newbie resources on our wiki as well.

I think you will find that starting fresh on our shard won't be as painful as it might otherwise be. Skill gains are fast here, we have no skill cap, and plenty of resources to help get folks on their feet in no time. :)

Welcome to the shard mate. I've been here 5 years and it just keeps getting better. I'm sure you will find what you're looking for here, and a full spell book :)

Thanks, I'm already enjoying this place. Sooo different then what I am used to, I have only played the Renaissance era, so quite a good bit to learn here. The trivia game I played when I got here was fun, like literally went there as soon as I entered. haha. I won a ring. Niceeee. I'll trade you for a full spell book :P Just kidding, not really worried about it, not like I can use most of the spells yet anyways.

you will find out soon that magery isn't as important as other fighting skills , btw if u have not noticed there is a training area in the custom part of the world teleporters, you can go to 70% skill (in all fighting skills) there using special custom daggers available in the area.

you can also use world chat to ask questions there is allways someone arround to answer you (:

Welcome, hope you enjoy as much as we do (:

If you're looking for a guild that is geared towards helping new players, I'm sure the Excelsior Training Academy (ETA) would be willing to host you for your first three months. Send a PM to Ernie ([pm Ernie) ingame and he'll get you all set up with spellbooks, regs, some basic armor, and a place to train that isn't limited like the Training Room is. As Silent mentioned, feel free to ask in World Chat (use [c), or send me a PM ingame ([pm Cruel Kindness) if you have any questions that aren't covered by the Excelsior Wiki. Most people are willing to offer help so long as you've familiarized yourself with the Wiki and the Codex. :D

Thank you both for the replies. Yeah, I found out magery isn't real important here (ahhhhh!) and I have been reading up on the wiki. Just so much to this place, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. haha. Everyone I have met in the game has been real helpful. Just bummed about the magery, it's all I've ever played. Oh well, new experiences! Cruel Kindness is a great name, btw.
