and there WILL be a random jerk aimlessly killing red pvpers... the idea is great, but the role its gonna bring will eventully bring the shard down... id Really hate and i really mean hate, to find another server that resembles this, No PvP... Period... i dont care what type of pvp colibri has scripted, i dont like pvp what-so-ever, it may not affect me personally, but it will affect the shard, if you dont see it now, youll see it later... but as colibri stated this poll will prolly repeat itself in a year...
i find this kinda pointless, lol... if we bring this up in a year, then these discussions can continue... =]

OPEN DOORS
I am new to this shard and so far I see that it is a friendly and helpful place full of experiences that are as unique as the people on this shard. Unfortunately peace is only a calm before the storm. You must have a balance of peace and chaos. A PvP idea is great and we, as fans of UO, should open the doors to new ideas. Afterall, if we did not, then the shard we all enjoy would not exist. You must also weigh the pros and cons. The con is that some may try and not enjoy this experiement. The pros are that people will find a new fire for the game, and it will give the operators of this shard a chance to tweak the PvP issue, which is a part of the game, whether you choose to accept it or not.

I realize this has already been stated as a dead issue. But one thing I don't really understand is why it has to be 60,70 or 80% of the votes go to a yes, when Felucca only takes up about a 30% of the world. And even then, if you didn't want to be a part of it, in that world, you would only bear witness to it (by very low chance). On the last shard I played on, they had the world chat segregated into areas. So, I would think it possible to have the chat in Felucca limited to that as well (as I'm sure people in Fel wouldn't much care about someone selling a 120 Bushido Powerscroll). Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is, Sosaria is a big world. And I think there's more than enough room (especially with the terms you put on this type of PvP) for everyone to be able to play the way they want without disturbing someone else's serenity.

Well i think that the main problem here is that it would attract more people that are mainly into PvP, kinds of players who arent as helpful, which would damage the atmosphere. Still, there would be the 1-2 months waiting period before you could become a red player, also the ability for staffers to ban people from being red players.
Anyway, yes this is now a dead issue, however there might be a revote sometime in the future.

I honestly don't think that it would bring in that many people that are mainly PvP oriented. And if it did, I'm sure they wouldn't last long. Because the shard isn't PvP geared. There's no real incentive to PvP, other than to experience a different part of the game. It's not like you can get something that's crazy awesome that other players that don't PvP can't get. You can't fight over champions or anything either. Just seems like the only reason one could have want to PvP on this shard, is to have fun, not to dominate the shard. I doubt this PvP system would get that much use anyway, it'd probably be really hard to find anyone else participating in it. Maybe people don't like the red guys too, lol. In the next toll maybe use a different colour like orange? I dunno. *shrug*

Agreed.
I came from sphere shard with full-fledged pvp system. It means you've got the full monty when you were killed; the killer gets everything you have in backpack. It's problem was — almost no pvm. The whole point of that shard became to pvp only. Only newbies were interested in pvm. It was quite boring. So i am here.
But it was sphere — just Britania. And here, on runuo, we have five worlds. Should it be wrong to make one for pk? With no staff rules and dull limits: time limits, count limits, loot limits or color limits. It's absolutely boring.

I like the age restrictions myself but might add *Rez Kill* is one of the biggest complaints that I have heard of over the years of Playing the game. should be a time fame to get suited up and ready to play again.

I love this idea, one problem is the looting issue. I don't think its right to lose all of your gear and items to 1 death, but on the contrary having nothing to lose from death takes all the thrill out of it(as previously stated). A solution I believe could work well is: Upon death instead of a player being able to loot your corpse, they should be awarded a set amount of gold. The transfer could be automatic. Exceptions: Both players must be flagged with the system thats in play for the gold transfer to work; Res killing should award nothing(use timers); If there is not enough gold in your account to pay your opponent for his victory 1 item picked randomly from your bag (excluding somethings like levelable weapons/ blessed items/ etc), and that random item is transfered in lue of the set amount of gold.
Another idea, instead of having it global flag why not implement an 'Arena.' Inside the arena there could be an NPC "The Battlemaster" who takes bets from both players, and the victor takes the lewt. It can be gold, items, or both. Basically you should be able to bet whatever both members(or all members) can agree is fair. I feel this could reduce player anguish when they die to lag, and some noob ganks all there gear that they spent weeks working for. The final bet must be shown and both players could have to click agree for the match to start.
Ive been waiting for a new pvp system for along time. I can't wait to see whats in store. I have more ideas [pm in game anytime. (I would also like to see a 'PVP Tournament' with sanctioned matches.) (Even Single elemination free for alls could be something spectacular with 6-12 people in a cage.)

I think most peeps who only have 1 character would make a alt to pvp with.
I mean once you have alot of cash and your houses and legend skills...dont you want a fun reason to spend your money

ok for the semi *new* players... gosh you ppl or just the ones that dont get it, its not about the peace befor the storm, its not about enjoying some nice peaceful pvp (an theres no such thing as nice peacely pvp)... this shard has been on a roll for 3+ years WITHOUT pvp, u bring pvp, you create a mess, a mess that will lead out of control, an out of control doesnt just mean "ya just jail them, or ban them if they break the rules" the staff will be doing that alot, an befor you know it, all that will be left are the people that "reds" call "trammelites" then the harassment comes, the name calling comes, you want a disaster? leave this shards peace alone, an by that go join a secondary pvp shard so none of you will ruin it here... the only peace before the storm is the one that will cause that storm to roll in, an you should be gone for that...
this shard is designed for pvm... not pvp... throwing that in will throw off the balance, you got the cleric prayers, the layering, then comes the stubborns, the angeries, etc etc.... id guarentee you one thing, i will eventually participate in this, and over time will go so far to murder someone that id get banned for it...
you want pvp?, then make a player weekly (or every other day) time frame for all ppl who want to pvp go to the pvp dungeon... like a 7-9pm shard time... an see how it rolls, and if one rule could be established, if anyone talks about anything involves the pvp dungeon at that time or any other time, instant jail... or perferably banned for a few days...

I have to say I'm very surprised by the results of this forum.
Much like other topics that have been brought up, some people just shoot down the idea without a single good reason for doing so.
Let's see.
1) The PVP system would be strictly between those who want to PVP. Those who don't have no need to worry about anything because it wouldn't effect them in the slightest. You don't want to get player killed, don't turn on the option. End of story.
2) Much like the language issues, a separate chat was suggested, and yet people who wouldn't even use it still said it was a bad idea with out much to back up their reasons.
I am coming to the conclusion that many people here want things run one way, and one way only, and that is their way. Other people are not allowed to go against their way, even if it had no effect on them whatsoever. Makes me sad to see people act this way.
I for one am hoping that Coli does come through with the separate shard idea to allow those of us who would like to experience something new while still maintaining friendships and characters on this most excellent shard, a place to do so. Perhaps this pvp style could be set up on the new "shard". Or perhaps just allow pvp in Fel in general, but not in tram.
