Re: I was wondering.....
Depends on the point of view.
A regular small house goes for 35250 gold.
The smallest customable house (7x7, 2-story) starts at 30500,
but thats just the foundation. Additional costs will come for walls,
floor tiles, etc. So the price will be higher, depends on owns choice.
IMHO, the best starting house is a small tower, which goes for about 80k.
It has 2 story and roof. Also lots of spots possible for him.
If you need help for placing one at a nice spot near a town,
I can help you.

Re: I was wondering.....
If memory serves me correctly, the 'cheapest' house you can get cost 37,000 gold. And go up from there
First you would have to buy a House Placement Tool from a NPC Architect. (One can be found in Northwestern Brit.)
Then you can use the tool anywhere, and see the house prices and types. Decide which one you want, and know what target you should aim for.
Keep in mind CUSTOM houses start out as a single floor dirt plot, and you have to pay for each and ever wall, floor tile, etc. And can get very costly.

Admit that you do not know something is knowledge.

Re: I was wondering.....
Thisbe, being a new guy myself, i placed several houses and were unhappy with every one of them. I found it better to save up about 100k, place a 9x12 (if my memory serves me correctly (LOL)YODA) I was much happier with this, and 100k is very easy to make, but after a week i was finally settled with it. My house is the first one on the coast, northwest of vesper just outside the guard zone if you want to take a look, it cost me 89k.

Re: I was wondering.....
Thank you all so much for the helpful advice! I bought a house tool as suggested by Ironbender and got the information I was hoping for.
