Ideas to make useless ingots/wood viable.

Post by KnitePrince »

I will repost the first part of this from another thread and continue from there;

(copy/paste)
BOD's--
they just plain stink. people want 20 dull or 10 shadow to get powder of temperment. they want the Val and nearby bods to get the armor of crafting +3, they want the blaze and near bods to try to get the Armor of crafting +5, and they want Plat bods to try for a sharpening blade. Thats IT!!!! Some folks will work to get a colored forge or two. Some will try to get a smithers protector to lock down as a show piece.. once they have gotten the deco items and colored forges etc, they have no interest in doing those Bod's again...
To make the new system, or even the old system better. rewards should also be better. there are three columns of possible rewards. Most use only two of those. I would like to see those columns filled, even if the chance was only 10% with items like;
Armor of crafting +2. +4 in addition to the +1, +3, and +5.
How about a forge that gives a small bonus to the amount of ingots when you refine? there could even be two, or more of them. A small that gives you a 5% bonus. if you refine 1000 ingots it gives you 50 extra. A large that gives 10% bonus.. if you refine 1000 ingots it gives you 100 extra... with a system that changes ore locations, you would find miners hauling their load of valuable plat ore HOME so they could use their bonus forge to get those extra few ingots.. hehehe, yah, it would be a pain, but a worthwhile pain.

Something I started working on, and never finished.

potion barrels.
basically the same as a keg. Only they would hold 5 kegs. using the barrel ID instead of the keg ID. As i currently have it, it takes 9 barrel staves instead of the kegs three, two lids and one barrel tap to make the open ended barrel. it also takes barrel hoops made form tin rather than basic iron. The tinker menu combines 4 iron and three bronze to make one tin ingot. it takes 4 tin ingots to make one set of hoops. and 4 tin ingots to make the tap. the open ended barrel is then used like the Keg, with twenty four bottles to make the potion barrel. Now, weight is obviously a factor, so people will have to have a mule to carry their keg once filled if they dont make it at their house. the barrel can be filled with bottles, or a keg can also be dumped into the barrel. Since this needs to be stronger than a normal keg, oak boards are also required to make the staves and lids. clicking on a potion keg will fill it from a barrel. the idea was so that people didnt have to have twenty kegs of potions locked down on their houses to take care of bees and plants. the barrels use resources like the bronze and oak rather than normal base boards and iron to give these things a small calling/use.

other things like plant pot/bowls could be added to the crafting menu. use mahogony because of its resistance to water damage and rot, and line the bowls with refined or raw beeswax.

i have mentioned before in another post, that there are Elven belts as well. i removed the requirement that you had to be an elf to wear it, and added gold and bronze ingots to the manufacturing process. belts need clasps and rivets right? these belts look a lot nicer than the woodland belts (imho) but can hold the same attributes, giving people a little more variety in how they look.

There are many things that could be made craftable, and made to use valueless ingots and wood. Each little thing would add to the value of the ingots and wood, as well as help spur the economy, and drive miners/lumberjacks to harvest wood and ore they normally ignore completely.

Feel free to add ideas. and please forget about the 1337 armor and weps, I'll slap you! :worried:

I'll prefix this by saying I have no idea how hard ideas are to implement so Ill just rattle off some ideas, most of which Im sure are undoable but maybe from my dodgy ideas great ones with come!

Make house parts customisable. Eg Doors walls etc are customizable but out of coloured ore. An iron gate deed can be made with 100 blaze ingots to make an orange gate. This could be applied to walls etc with wood too. Would be cool to see an orange 18X18 house.

Make shadow ore stealthable.... (if that is a word). IE you can stealth in full shadow plate suit.

Make lesser runics and ores have 5 SP per level on levelable weapons. Obviously not with a Plat runic tool and Plat ingots. Maybe dull copper which will give an item 3 properties max with dull copper ingots where you dont have the penality of only 3 SP per level.

Tools made out of lesser ingots could have more uses per. I understand thats what a tool house is for, but a) newbies dont have the cash to get a tool house and b) it would make combining them alot easier.

Same with instruments for wood.

Just a few ideas, will as more when I am not 30mins late for work lol

i have seen "paints" to dye house walls doors etc, but none of them looked good, they paint "everything".. its like you painting the door in your house, painting over the door handle, window hinges etc.. looks.. cheap. As far as customizing after they are placed.. not sure on that, or if the effort would be worth any resources that you could make useable in the process...

I cant say i dislike the shadow armor being stealthable... thats not a bad idea, would have to see how uber someone in runic shadow plate would be as opposed to leather, ethy leather etc..

Make lesser runics and ores have 5 SP per level on levelable weapons.
Not sure i follow that one? You mean when a weapon leveled up it would get 5 skill points? If that was the suggestion, then I'd say .. All I am really looking for, is ideas for craftable items that would be useful, sought after, and in now way threaten the balance.

Some tools already have a "sturdy " version, but adding a bit of durability depending on the ingot used isnt a bad idea either. the only thing that I could think of being a pain is making the toolhouse recognize those tools, and am quite sure the "metal would be lost when they were retrieved, though that prob wouldn't matter as long as the "uses" was there.

Think along the lines of the stuff you use every day that you cant craft. the stuff you have to buy. Things like water sprinkler are out, they are part of the money sink...
Someone mentioned "Horseshoes" that would make a pet run a little faster... kinda like that idea, as long as it wasnt taken to extremes might be useful in having pets keep up with you a little better, even if they still werent as fast as nobles... they could also wear out, causing your pet to actually go slower (as if it had a loose shoe) Muahaha, woudlnt that be fun a hundred miles out into the middle of Fel with 4 Umms hot on your heels... the better the metal used the longer the shoes last...

Crafting Beehive deeds? Requires One of the wood and ingot types, as well as honey and bees wax? Could even make a quest out of it... and pray you didnt find killer bees instead of regular bees?? LOL Run Forest!

Making Current non craftable items craftable.. IE, Mallet and chisel for stoneworking.. think about it, what is a mallet and chisel made of? Metal wood and leather?
Hive tool for Bees. I think Coli has them set up to be a bit of a money sink atm.. but we could use a manufacturable item that combined the hive tools like a toolhouse only something that was a single use combining all the hive tools currently in your backpack to a single use?
Currently its not really a big deal, it works fine as is, except that i am beginning to have great difficulty clicking on things as small as the hive tools.. :(
