Treasure hunting - another map as loot

I propose that Treasure maps have a 50%(?) chance of containing a Treasure map one level higher.

eg. when you dig up a level 4 map, 50% chance of finding a level 5 map in the treasure chest.

Will make treasure map hunting more fun / rewarding / sustainable.

Perhaps for balance reasons the drop rate could be tweaked (depending on level?) so level 7 maps aren't too common and artifacts become too easy to get via treasure hunting.

thoughts?

We have been asking for changes to the Treasure maps, Prisoner camp chests, dungeon lockpicking chests and SOS/MiB chests to be altered to provide a little bit more interest and excitement. Right now the main value of the land and sea treasure chests is limited to the highest levels only.

It would not take long for them to alter the programming that determines what appears in these chests. But they either refuse to do it or even comment on it.

Personally I would be more than happy to have a tiny bit of deco in each level of Treasure chests and reduce the amount of magic scrolls and junk armor/weapons in those chests. People who can do Ingenious maps do not need (or even probably want) that many magic scrolls. And in order for the player to get the maximum use out of that Ingenious map (especially in Fel to get oints), every single item must be removed from the chest to spawn more monsters. It takes a long time to get through the Ingenious chests only to end up with an Alchemist Bauble (one artifact per Ingenious chest, only mentioned here as an example), a giant load of reagents, a Token bag full of junk gear, 6k gold, and about 10 single gems. Some people go just for the Artifact and gold pile only, leaving the rest behind. And honestly I don't see how they can do that because every time I dig up a chest, the gold pile and Artifact is at the very bottom and I have to wade through all the stuff just to find the Arty. And you cannot click/drag items around in the chest. They have to be removed.

Sure it might be different if we had some sort of Salvage tool to utilize all the garbage and put it to good use, but we don't.

I suggest deco items in the chests because many people love to collect and trade deco items. It gives you something of value to either sell, keep or trade. It would be much more fun digging up chests if we would have the surprise of neat items inside instead of the plain 'ol stuff every single time. And there would be more interest in treasure hunting. If you did not want to go dig up treasure yourself, then you could easily sell the maps. You can sell maps now, but there's not a huge demand for any map except Ingenious, and only because they contain one Artifact. And those Artifacts can be found elsewhere in the game. Nothing in the land treasure chests are special or unique. Only the method of obtaining it is unique, requiring additional skills of lockpick and cartography, patience in finding the right spot to dig, and a strong stomach for the chest explosion. hehe

Check out that website. It has a LOT of sample graphics that could easily be used for new deco. I especially love the special filled bookcases in almost every theme, from healing supply shelf, to alchemy and the kitchen. The Gravedigger broken/damaged/filled bookcase isn't my cup of tea. I want something more stylish and cute for my game house.

For each level of map, pick 3 deco items. Each item would have a 33% chance to appear in the chest. The lower level (1) would have something dinky in them, like maybe a set of horseshoes, special food items, etc. Mid-low range maps (2-3) can have the roasted whole pig-on-a platter item, pile of silver coins, or other "rare" food items. Mid-high maps (4-5) could have other forms of cloth-covered tables, similar to the green plaid gravedigger table, but in different colors and sizes. And the highest level maps (6) would have perhaps a limited collection of new custom stuff, larger furniture and new statues.

This sounds great. As a newcomer to the shard, treasure maps,MiBs, and SoSs are my favorite part of UO. It's not alot of work to adjust tables so that loot is better/more manageable for the treasure hunters. I'm busy out fishing right now, so I hope this profession is worth sticking around on the shard for.
