Valentine's Day Quest 2016
Re: Valentine's Day Quest 2016
I did not let it defeat me but after 15 minutes of beating on it and doing nothing to it. i decided it is over powered for someone with less that jacked up gear.I am not looking for staff to gift wrap anything just saying these limited time holiday quests could be a little easier. and IMO there is nothing offensive or untrue about my post.

My little girl just did it without even decent gear. Just what she got from the donation boxes. No GoC, no relayers, a Horselord she leveled to about 20. She didn't die once, and was done in about 20 minutes. Thanks Nyx for making something casual playing kids can have fun with. BTW she loved her reward too.

This doesn't make it true. Simply because something stumps you, doesn't mean that it requires 'jacked up gear' in order to complete. All it means is that you were not able to do it with your gear.Celeztien wrote:I did not let it defeat me but after 15 minutes of beating on it and doing nothing to it. i decided it is over powered for someone with less that jacked up gear..
They could be easier, yes, if they'd been designed that way. In which case the rewards would be far fewer and far less interesting/fun.Celeztien wrote:I am not looking for staff to gift wrap anything just saying these limited time holiday quests could be a little easier.
Well, I found your original post to be mildly offensive, but that's probably just because I'm the volunteer staff member who designed and created this quest from scratch and who purposefully made it so it's possible to be completed by pretty much any player regardless of gear. Immediately approaching the thread with an angry tone and making sarcastic remarks paired with statements that are proven to be untrue (the quest is being run largely by people who do -not- have fantastic gear, thus clearly it is not "only for veteran players with jacked up gear and stats" as you put it twice now). You could just as easily have explained the trouble you were having completing the quest and asked for advice or a quest buddy to help you with it. That would not have been offensive in any way, to anybody, and you wouldn't have gotten all the negative attention you've now received from your angry post.Celeztien wrote:and IMO there is nothing offensive or untrue about my post.
Re: Valentine's Day Quest 2016
I remember my first year trying to do the Christmas quest and getting owned half the time but was still able to complete it with minimal gear a few times. Then came the Valentines quest which I failed at miserably. I then tried the St Patrick's day quest which resulted in numerous failures, The whole idea of this shard is not to make it easy for everyone to be able to do everything right away. If that were to happen everyone would become bored because there would be no challenge to anything. Keep working at building your character and soon you will be able to attempt the challenging quests. It doesn't take that long to get good enough to attempt these quests with a decent amount of success.

For those who think +Nyx makes the quests too hard, maybe ask +Veritas to design some quests for you.

Yeah, pretty much all of this.nasskarr wrote:I remember my first year trying to do the Christmas quest and getting owned half the time but was still able to complete it with minimal gear a few times. I didn't even attempt the 2014 Winter event as I was only 2 months old and figured I had no chance. Then gradually got more involved in quests through the year as my character improved... then for the 2015 winter event, I just blew through it. It didn't bother me that I missed out on the 2014 one, because I just saw it as something for me to aim for next time. When I was able to handle it and came away with some nice rewards, it actually felt like an accomplishment, because it showed the difference a year made. And that's largely the point/fun of UO - you have to be in it for the long term, so if something is difficult this time around, just make it into your goals for next time.
To the OP, here, I was in the room with you when you were taking on the cherub, but because I was on a call - and because when I said it was your turn, you seemed pretty comfortable to take it on - I wasn't watching your health at the same time, so didn't spot that you were struggling... sorry about that. If you want to go back in, I'm more than happy to give you a hand with some heals and make sure you don't get too badly outnumbered. Just PM me - Oslington Weasel.

Re: Valentine's Day Quest 2016
Want to confirm all other rules apply? I had aggrod several of them to me and another player came in and just started attacking them as well (two players actually). Wouldn't have been a big deal if they asked, but they couldn't have taken them on by themselves and I don't like the idea of playing meat shield without consent. When I pointed this out, they both seemed to think it was perfectly normal and okay behavior so now I'm curious if I wasted a page?
Re: Valentine's Day Quest 2016
I have also had the same sort of thing happen more than once on this quest, I didn't page thought it was curious, and hoped the offending parties were ready for the solo mission that existed after I was done. But it was the same exact situation, two players enter, gather the remaining cherubs I wasn't aggroing dump them all on me and proceed to wordlessly attack from safe distance with a bow, all without even so much as saying "Hi, mind if we.....". If they had so much as said what they were doing or asked Id have stayed and helped them complete it, but due to it being rude from my perspective I finished up the remaining kills I needed, and promptly left, and I doubt highly Id have been very inclined to come and res if it had gone sour for them

Re: Valentine's Day Quest 2016
I think (and it is perhaps well known) that you can fight 8 or more cherubs without any harm for you. Other than wasting a few bandages, there is no much harm for you in that. Totem is account bound(afaik) so noone will loose profit for selling itif a bit more players would get it.But it was the same exact situation, two players enter, gather the remaining cherubs I wasn't aggroing dump them all on me and proceed to wordlessly attack from safe distance with a bow, all without even so much as saying "Hi, mind if we.....".
I respect people who don't break the rules(though a few rules are a bit too strict imo, but that would be offtopic), but kills for cherubs are shared so I don't see reasons to call for gm action for such thing. You don't page when someone comes to "your" champ and joins without permission as well.
Even if these players weren't able to kill a few remaining cherubs themselves, they won't be able to repeat that 30 times to receive a totem.
Anyways, it is only my opinion, maybe Nyx didn't want for it to be done this way. But with how this quest is setup, I doubt.

Re: Valentine's Day Quest 2016
Nobody should ever pull mobs onto other people, that is certainly not acceptable and I believe in breach of the codex. Just because someone has better gear doesn't mean they should have to tank for you. Although from my experience any of the Veterans are more than willing to help if you simply ask. That being said, for quests like this I don't see a problem with someone coming in and attacking the same mob as you. There is no negative impact on your kill and it only assists in completing your quest faster.

Re: Valentine's Day Quest 2016
Had no plans on paging about it and yes I can handle it, wasn't concerned from a standpoint of anyone getting a totem or otherwise. Merely pointing out the general lack of manners is all.
