New ISP on an optic connection

Post by +Colibri »

Yesterday I finally got a letter from the new ISP that has been putting optic cables under the streets, and our area is now open for applications. Today a representative came, and I signed for a 10/10 MBit connection. The fun part is, that it costs just 14€ a month

I'm expecting we'll be getting that second connection in early August. I'll then also make a public ventrillo server for all players of UOEx.

The best part is that we'll then be on a dual internet connection, practically immune to ISP problems which seem to be the weak link lately. The server is stable, the internal network too, but the ISP is acting up. So if you just got disconnected - you can be comforted by the fact that it will get better. Hopefully.

I'll post to this thread if i have any more news.

If you put up a pro vent server you have to be an approved host with Flagship, the free version only hosts up to 8 people.

Just 8 people if using a free version? Huh, that's new hehe.
Well we can go with TS too, but i found that Ventrilo is better. I guess we'll figure it out somehow.

Or - host multiple servers :)
A public one, and 3 extra for guilds or such.

I think the version 2.1 of ventrilo is currently the best option.

The last 2 versions of Vent have been 8 max on a self hosted server.

I for one use multiple 3.0 servers now, and since you can't install multiple instances, I personally won't revert. Vent is hand over fist better then teamspeak, but it doesn't have the limits like vent has.

Too bad you can't use two different versions.

I can, but I don't think most of our players can hehe. It should be user friendly.

My machine doesn't have the power to go through that much trouble for ventrilo.

Then I guess teamspeak is the better option. Also alot more user friendly. Not as many features tho.

The guy that will finalize the connection should be here this evening. Then I'll have it in testing mode for a little while, and then i'll rewire the whole thing. More news when i have them.

Are any of them the new one? Because it wouldn't install while there was another version installed.

Maybe if you first install 3.0 and then 2.3. The 2.3 installer maybe isnt checking whether another version is installed... anyway, if it would be possible, that would be great. I could also try installing 2 servers, one for public use and the other for guilds.

ok this is how you do it... this is how i do it with a fresh computer. install the first vent and copy the program folder somewhere else besides root:\program files\ then you uninstall the first on... then install the second one. make a copy of the program folder somewhere else..(i would suggest calling them by the version also) and repeat the process over and over till you have the ones you want. when you add a server it will be in all the copys you made
