Forum upgrade

Post by +Colibri »

I've just upgraded our PhpBB2 forum to a PhpBB3 version. There are many upgrades, the most useful is probably the ability to add attachments to posts. Making it easier to store images and such UO related material :)

I hope this will also make it easier for people to register, but with enough spam protection so we don't have to listen about viagra every day.

Unfortunately the old forum template doesn't exist for the new version so I chose a similar one. I'm still adapting to the new look... it's a little bit like someone hit me over the head... but I guess in a few days or weeks we'll all get used to the new look and functionality.

You'll have to make/find a theme(board style) that will left align the boards rather than right.

I actually kinda like it this way. Anyone else here that would want it turned around?

Well most of the templates are made with the user info and avatar on the right side. But i can quickly change it in the template HTML code.

With phpBB you can let people choose what they want to use, just put up an option of a left aligned "Board Style" so that people can pick it in their Control Panel > Board Preferences.

Here's the knowledge base for switching prosilver from left to right.

Maybe try duplicating prosilver and naming it leftsilver so we have the option of both.

I didn't necessarily want everyone to be left aligned, I just wanted an option I could choose that would let me pick it.

phpbb offers different styles people can pick, I'm fine with you switching it to right as the default, I just wanted an available option.

Last time I checked there were 2-3 styles to choose from. For those that don't have much experience with it you can access those by going to User Control panel > Board Preferences > My Board Style there's a drop down menu where you can choose them.

Thanks Coli.

Aye, I do like the right alignment myself, but as Harabakc mentioned, having the option to switch is very nice

Also, I think the option of color is a very nice suggestion as well. I do love color options.

Thank you both for your grande suggestions!

The main annoyance on the color thing is the time it takes to code it on the back end(or find one that looks decent), because you've got to switch crap around. I'm a fan of the carved steel template personally, so I am pretty glad he made that the left aligned one, lol.

My personal suggestion would be just to make 2 copies of carved steel and name one different, carvedleft or whatever as an example.

I still have no frigging clue why the coders of phpBB decided it'd be a great idea to completely reverse everything in 3.0 since 2.3 or whatever the previous version was was all left aligned.

I really do appreciate you giving me a left aligned template to choose from though, especially since I was the only one asking. I just didn't expect everyone to have to use it, lol. Oh and btw, you should be able to choose the other one that is up right now(prosilver or subsilver or whatever it is) to go back to right aligned, I think it's right aligned anyway.

Yea tried the new theme with the right aligment, one problem with that thou is i can't see the menus very well like when got a new post it's a little hard to understand for me eyes haha

So yea maybe just the curved steel done both ways would be nice, if you can't do the curved still with a tint off green, red or anything like that not much just a tint would be nice hehe, look me asking all this of you, poor Colibri :(

(i got bad eyes btw)

Ok harabakc, select the "carved steel mirror" template in your profile.

Osiris, i can install a few more templates if it would help. I suggest you go to http://www.phpbb.com/styles/db/ and choose one or two that you think are best for you. Then tell me the name(s) and i'll install.
