Really Really Annoyed.....

So last night i took part in the harry potter Event, and had to leave after we finished. So was happy when we finished killing old Voldie.... BUT like i said i had to leave, we was in the one room for like 20minutes and i dont know why, the gm's was teleporting in and out and not saying anything and i was saying i have to leave can i ither get my prize first or tommorow ( today ) so i logged on this morning and nothing, i dont know if everyone got the same prize or what, but as far as i see it, i participated in the WHOLE event, so i shouldnt have to miss out because of RL..... will i recieve my prize?

The staff are nice enough to run amazing events for us, if I was staff and I spent time outta my life to create events for players, and then I saw this post, I'd be "really really annoyed...."

Buck Up Red, you attended the best part, the actual event. Count yourself lucky. If you didn't have time to stay to collect a reward, its not the staffs fault.

Well if you think your going to get an answer in 2 seconds think again. Staff are not here 24/7 for you they have real lives also. you could have stayed logged in and got the reward. but if you feel like you cant hang here and understand the way things work have a good time some place else we don't need the drama here.

RedMist, +V and I both said more than once what the delays were for - we were finishing getting the prizes ready and setting up a system to handle customizing one of the reward pieces. It is unfortunate that you had to log before the prizes were awarded, however waiting is part of any event. If you are not sure you can stick it out through the entire event, you have the choice to either not attend or attend and risk having to leave early (and possibly missing out on something).

The staff work at the same pace as anybody else, usually while being bombarded with pages and PMs and the like. When handling an event of this scale it tends to mean there are a plethora of things to be done between each phase of the event process and while it is fun, it is also quite stressful for us. Even though +V and I worked on this event for several days, no amount of preparation or testing can ensure there are no delays, nor fix every issue in advance. There will always be some unforeseen problem and there will always be waiting time between phases, it is unavoidable.

For a little perspective, consider the amount of work that went into making the event you are upset about - two people worked for 4 days, averaging 8+ hours each day. That is only for building, designing, testing and preparation - it does not include the time it took to run the event itself. I personally spent over 40 hours this week working on this event alone. That's on top of answering pages, greeting newbies, and my 'day job'. Events like this (and staffing in general) are a labor of love for me. I do them because I love this shard and I like making our players happy, giving you guys neat new things to do and see. My point here is that posting a gripe on the forums may or may not get the staff member's attention, but if it does it is most likely going to irritate and insult them.

One thing to keep in mind regarding PMing the staff - and this is for everybody - if a staff member has PMs turned on, that doesn't mean you should use it as a direct line to them. For every message you send a staff member, that staffer is most likely receiving an additional 10 messages from other players (often simultaneously). I know many of you have noticed that sometimes opening a gump or running a macro will close out any PMs you have open or waiting to be read; the same thing happens to us all the time. It's very easy for a message to go unnoticed in the madness that is running an event. If you have a major issue regarding an event (IE: stuck, gear didn't get banked/is missing, etc), it's best to send in a page. If you have a minor issue such as this one, or if you absolutely must send a PM to a staff member for whatever reason then wait a few hours until after their event is over. Things will be less hectic for them at that time and your message will be more likely to be received and responded to.

Redmist, I will be holding another of these events tomorrow and you are welcome to attend it. The reward will be the same as was given yesterday.

Before going on and finishing the staff post I read through and would like to put imput on it. You mentioned you entered into the event and waited and eventually had to leave the event even when it not finished. Yet you wanted a prize. Like the others have stated you didn't finished the event. And if staff are still super nice to you and give you one then that should be a gift of niceness. You got to think of how many people join and play and everyone talking at the same time and complaining at the same time. I was staff and you got to look for issues and abusers to boot them from the event. Then you get angry about someone mentioning you've got a real life unlike others that pretty kiddish thinking or a kiddish thinking adult. Like the last 8 plus years Ive played uo and even staffed 3 for long time I can say i heard your type before. Yet if you had a real life you'd not be online so much and you'd be having fun irl. Its like everyshard people make up they have a gf or make something up to seem like they are some what got a life yet nothing and they are on uo everyday. I came back to uo due to lost job so I got all the time in the world atm. Finally the thing I love a lot from people in uo is the" Well Ill just quit this shard" Now obviously as a whole shard we don't want to lose players all we want is to grow as big as we can with the most fun as we can. But if someone with a kiddy attitude cant handle something so small in game and quit over it then that person IMO doesn't need to stay. Its a bad seed happens every shard I go to/run. Someone loses an addon its OMG gm give me item back (gm says no you lost it legit) I quit ! IF people cant handle the small things in uo and quit over that then just imagine when something bigger happens. We all should be thankful we've got uo to still play. Thankful for the owner and creater and script writer all the way to the staff and people helping. Specially the events.
