Not trying to bust your [_] but the X-15 is the fastest Airplane known to man.


Here are the specs

The SR-71 i believe can only go like mach - 4.8 or something.

BUT The X-15 can not take off by its self it has to be already in the air.

So the SR-71 is the fastest jet to take off by its self.

The fastest known jet airplane is the SR-71 Blackbird. However faster aircraft have been flown by the U.S. military. But they are rocket powered and experimental which does not fall into your question of the fastest "jet" airplane.

But anyway, this is a game thread for fun so who really cares.
