Thought of this after 20 people asked for event handouts after the event was over.

Event? What was it if you don't mind my asking as I was not there.
I hope you did not let what annoyed you from enjoying it.

Oh +Veritas did some fun events last night and following minesweeper there were a lot of people asking where their Event loot was. I view events as an entertaining and challenging time, not really a "Oooh event, that means free stuff!"

I dunno about you, but when I run player held events, people who start demanding loot and missing the idea of community fun make me want to do less events.

But yes, I did have a blast even with this mentality going around. There were plenty of people who just enjoyed it for what it was too!

Unfortunately I was not able to partake in +Veritas' event; however I nearly cried a river from laughing at that Youtube video. I just happened to watch a few of Louis' other gigs and, wow!

I absolutely love this guy!! He is beyond hilarious; he is really something special. :dance

I loved both of +Veritas events. Lost a bit of sleep for the second one, but it was worth it. What I really enjoyed was the diversity since the first was a non-confrontational event whereas the second was town defense. Three deaths that night (all from exploding chests) before I started using Telekinesis. I suppose I should have gotten the hint when +Veritas asked if everyone cast Telekinesis...

My only slight criticism is that there wasn't an announcement about the event so if I wasn't on at that time I would have missed it. Would it be possible to put it on the town crier's announcement a day in advance? Again since it seemed kind of on the fly I understand that it may not be possible. As always great fun and I look forward to the next event.

I tend to do on-the-fly events often, at least when I have time and typically late weekend nights EST. However, for events that are on a larger scale, like my Approaching Shadow series, I like to give at the very least 3 days notice. I will give a much more prior notice for events that will be at the end of the series (Like, 2 weeks) since I plan on them being on a much larger scale than previous ones...probably whole day event themes, as in multiple events throughout the day with clear endings for that phase and rewards, since most people will not be able to complete a 5 or 6 hour event (LOL). I like involved and dedicated events...makes it interesting. Just takes forever to set up.

I'm not defending the mentality, but some people have come to expect to at least get a sash or some other named item from participating in an event. To those people these items are like "badges" of their history on the server. I personally don't care if I don't get anything, but I can understand why they'd think that....the staff has given out this kind of useless but quaint reward item for most events in the server's history. I have a little collection myself. Now if these people were expecting GOOD items....those only go to the winners. :p

As a man that was born in a house without running water, (which means we had an outhouse and walked 1/2 mile to the spring with jugs for drinking water) I found that video to be completely on the mark. As for those people that want instant rewards for being entertained, the reward IS the entertainment. Sure it's nice to get cool sashes and robes stating we were here on this date, but seriously isn't that what Vet Rewards are? Isn't that what we get from the milestones?
