OK here are some chicken and duck eggs

(she laid this one in the dirt, when laid eggs are coated in a substance called bloom, it prevents bacteria from entering the egg, however, it can cause staining on the egg, we wash the eggs just before using, because it stays fresher if you do not wash them until use)

Left is a normal size single yoke duck egg. Middle is the 3rd egg from a new layer(they tend to start out small and over a week or so work up to normal size eggs). The one on the right is a banty egg(small chicken)

dirty white duck is Doctor, a peking(like the aflac duck) shes the one I get eggs from. The brown one is an indian runner, male, they don't waddle, they walk upright and run fast

and the hens(the one in the middle is now gone)

We have 2 chickens right now, a Salmon faverolle, a french breed, rare in the US, and a buff orphington, a fairly common breed.
We also had a Gold Brabanter, another rare breed, well, not even recognized as a breed yet. She died unfortunately(was a runt and never did well).
My Salmon Fave will become part of a breeding program next summer to broaden the gene pool(there are currently only 50 breeding pairs of her type in the US).

Very nice and informative post. A good reminder that these things can be more than about a dozen pixels on screen :)
