Completely Noob Questions

Hey all,

I decided to pick up my ancient UO game for the heck of it and joined your server. I'm fumbling about and could use some help on some really newbie things that don't seem to work like I remembered them working.

1. Cooking...So I got kindling, and a campfire. I've secured the campsite and I have uncooked meat. I seem to remember that one could double click the meat to activate the target pointer and then click the campfire to cook. I can't get this to work. Am I missing something?

2. UOAM: I've gotten the black map issue I had working just fine thanks to the links in your forums here, but I can't seem to get my player to track. I've read that I need a sextant to get my coordinates, but I can't seem to find one. Are there only certain tinkers that sell them? Do I have to craft one? Am I too noob to save?

Any help is appreciated.

Oh yes...Are there any absolutely never touched UO in my life tutorials out there? I've been through your guide and wiki section, and I see UO stratics is still up. Are there any other places I can look? Many of the tutorials and guides out there assume that I remember the actual game mechanics and mouse clicks that make things happen.

To cook you need a cooking tool like a skillet as well as a heat source. You can buy a cooking tool at an inn.

I've never had a black map in UOAM, but make sure you've got the map files in the UOAM directory. This doesn't work as automatically as it originally did because it's a decade old or so now and not really supported anymore.

Don't worry about being a newbie ... enjoy it. Once you've mastered everthing you'll feel nostalgia for the fun, mystery, and discovery of being brand new on the shard.

AHHHH! The skillet lol. It's so simple. Thank you, sir.

And I've also figured out my issue with UOAM. I remembered seeing somewhere in the forums that I need Razor to sync UOAM with UOex. I downloaded that application and it worked fine after the setup.
