Q about - Leveling an artifact wep after changing its type

Ok, so I understand that if you level up an artifact weapon then switch its' type that you will be able to level it at standard item prices while having gained 5 points rather than 3. Now my question is this, if you make an artifact weapon levelable, then change its' type prior to leveling it, will it still get 5 points per level or will it be reduced to 3 per level at that point?

Artifact-tagged weapons (primarily Doom stealables) will always gain 5 points per level. However, the downside is when you spend the points it'll take double the amount of points to gain the bonus / ability. So as long as you remove the artifact tag before you spend the points then it'll be treated as a standard weapon.

Note: The 3-point leveling is related to crafted items. You cannot remove the crafted status of a weapon.
