How does one raise the Disarm Trap skill?

I trained it at the Thief Guildmaster... and I gained 0.0 skill in an hour of trying to remove a trap from a prisnor camp, then tried a few more trapped chests for a while. still no gains... any ideas? and no, the skill is neither locked nor turned down, and I have high enough skill in stealing, tinkering, hiding and stealth (all are at GM or higher.) Lockpicking is at 96.6 is that my problem? I wouldn't think so, as the skill was trainable/learnable.

I raised my disarm trap skill on the lockpicking chests in dungeons. the harder the lock, the harder the trap. If you aren't getting gains on one, and aren't untrapping it, it's too difficult a trap to disarm. Gains are REAL slow. After i bought the skill to 30-ish, the only place i could find gains were the chests in Trammel - Shame. Once you get to 90-ish untrap, then the camps will give gains... If i am remembering correctly. It's been 500 days or so

I raised mine to 70ish by just using magic trap on a chest and removing trap..

yes it works good with magic trap and some crates but its realy one of the slowest skills on this shard and i have a lot of them at 100.0 now. my macro is running since 9 hours now and the skill raise up from NPC up to 62. i let it run in the next days and check it out how high it can go with magic traps.

Edit2: 21 hours and my skill is 75
Edit3: 30 hours and my skill is 79,5

little addon to remove traps: with the chest-skillgain i got my RT to 80, then i went to destard and there i found a chest i could not untrap for 5 tries, then i made a macro on it with my pet guarding me, actually i got 1.0 from this one chest and it still is trapped..so might help to get higher, other chests there were untrapped at once but this one..i will edit this post when i know more.

edit: untrapped the chest at 81.2 ..but was worth it

those dungeon locked boxes are the way to get it to 100 but the unfortunate part is there is no real way to tell what lvl dungeon chest it is.. I made a runebook of dungeon lockbox spots (2 in fact so they would respawn by the time I looped) and did that for a few days or so to gain to 100
