Does hit lower defense work with armor pierce, double shot or crushing blow? Does it work better or at all on certain mobs? Does it allow 25 percent more dmg for x number of second?

I think it makes you hit harder when it hits (that hit only) don't know exact numbers.

HLD is a % chance to lower the monster Defense chance increase (it can be negative, most monsters have 0 DCI) by 25% for 8 seconds. This makes a monster easier to hit, but since the to-hit calculations are quite complex, it does not translate into a flat +25% to hit. For example you have 100 swords, monster has 100 wrestling - the chance to hit is exactly 50%. If you put the HLD effect on it (-25 DCI) the hit chance increases to 66%.

FORMULA: Hit Chance% = ( ( [Attacker's Combat Ability + 20] * [100% + Attacker's Hit Chance Increase] ) divided by
( [Defender's Combat Ability + 20] * [100% + Defender's Defense Chance Increase] * 2 ) ) * 100

HLD applies a temporary -25 to DCI and HLA reduces HCI by 25. HLD does not stack with itself. DCI has a cap of 45%, so any target with 70% or more DCI is basically immune to HLD (probably only possible in PvP). Same for HLA and HCI.

Yes, it works with specials, just like any other weapon hits. Not sure on how exactly it works with double strike/shot, but I'd assume the chance to go off is rolled for each hit separately (as it is with hit spells)

It all depends on where (or rather - what) you hunt. For 99% of monsters you don't need HLL since you can heal with bandies just fine. But if you're one to enjoy the end-game content with mobs and bosses using mortal strike - HLL can be a life saver. Unless you use curse weapon, which has a 50 HLL. On the other hand higher to-hit from HLD will increase your overall DPS regardless of what you fight.

Personally I'd go for HLL on a endgame weapon just to avoid the hassle of casting CW (Chiv and Necro don't mesh well together). For anything else - go for HLD.
