Impact of 120 Tactics vs 100?
Impact of 120 Tactics vs 100?
I was just curious for the min/maxers, statistical gurus out there, is there a significant difference in 120 vs 100? Or with relayers, +hit weapons, etc, is the difference relatively negligible?
Re: Impact of 120 Tactics vs 100?
20% more base damage from 100 to 120, based on uoguide. Older formulas still have the difference at 20% between 100 and 120.Your level of Tactics determines how much of your Base Damage you are capable of inflicting on opponents. The percentage is equal to your skill plus + 50% (for example, at 120 skill points you will deal 170% of your base damage, while a fighter with no skill will only deal 50%).
Anatomy, a similar skill to Tactics, adds 10% damage difference between 100 and 120.

Re: Impact of 120 Tactics vs 100?
Thanks. Do you know roughly what type of overall damage increase that would roughly provide on a yumi and/or whirlwind wep? With 60HL/60FB for example. What I'm trying to do is prioritize my gold spending. If 120 tactics is a 1 or 2% overall damage increase then I would make it a lower priority. If it can add 8-15%, for example, then I would grab it much faster. I just wasn't sure how big.of an impact it had with all things considered. Lots of variables obviously but I figured maybe someone had a ballpark figure.

He already gave you the figure:

Thanks Ary, I was able to read what he said. My question in the subsequent post was not answered however, and I was hopeful that he or someone else might have the answer. A 20% increase to base damage != 20% overall damage increase.

I'm not sure anyone would know that but simply put you should get 120 tactics.Kevan wrote:Thanks Ary, I was able to read what he said. I should also discover a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow equal to the annual GDP of Norway.
If I had unlimited gold there are a lot of things "I should get." Since I don't I'm attempting to roughly decide the value of one of the many things I still need.
Many thanks to anyone who can provide helpful advice.

Re: Impact of 120 Tactics vs 100?
Devlin has already told you that 120 Tactics give you a 20% boost to base damage. So look at your weapon and find the base damage field and add 20% to that.
Now, for whatever weapon you are using you are going to have to figure out how the skill that it uses impacts the damage it does IE; 120 Archery gives X% damage boost and add that.
Don't forget to look up how your specials affect damage. Armor Pierce will make your Yumi do a lot more damage.
For the hit spells, I believe that they are based on magery for how much damage they do, so look that up. Look up the damage range for the spell you want and how your magery level affects it. IE; 120 Magery boosts spell damage by X% and add that
In addition to that, you have to figure in Spell Damage Increase, which isn't capped. You add SDI to relayers and get find it on jewelry. Once you total up your SDI you can multiply your spell hit accordingly.
Once you look all of these things up and do the math on them, you should have a decent idea of what has the most impact on your overall weapon damage.

You will drive yourself insane if you try to min max at this point in the game.
As you progress, your gear, stats, weapons etc will all change, and the numbers along with them.
If you like using a bow, save up for 120 archery, 120 tactics, 120 anatomy, and buy them. Doesn't really matter which goes first, as all 3 will help you. Personally, i'd do tactics and anatomy first, since those aren't weapon specific (in case you decided you like a war hammer better). Don't forget to buy/farm essences to raise your fighting skills to 130.
In my opinion, the easiest way is to start with pets. buy 5 maxed mules, and start gold farming. Get your 220 dexterity from there, and then a lot more possibilities are open for you to explore. Get some help and do the GoC quests, or save up and buy GoC armor. The difference is night and day once you have 220 dex and some GoC.

Re: Impact of 120 Tactics vs 100?
If you look at it with simple numbers and basic math the increase in damage would be roughly 10% for 100->120 tactics and 5% for anatomy.
Say your base DMG is 100 (a simple number, not really possible), you add *100% tactics to get 200 (current damage). And then you do the same (100*120% for increased tactics, aka predicted damage). The difference is 20 points. Divide the difference (20) by your current DMG (20/200 = 0,1) to get the increase in DMG from changing tactics which is 0,1 or 10%. Anatomy works half as good, so you get 5%
In reality, the damage calculations are so complex, that nothing is a clean % increase. For example tactics has no effect on Hit(something) spells, so the damage for those is constant, regardless of skill (but influenced by SDI). Other factors also apply, that change your DPS - To-Hit, enemy resists, Damage Increase, strength, etc. You'd have to provide all your stats to actually give anyone other than yourself a chance to accurately calculate the damage potential. And I doubt anyone would bother with doing that. I agree with what Asmo said - you're not at the point in the game, where min-maxing is important. Try to buy all the 120's asap, prioritizing tactics over anatomy and over archery.
