help, game freezing

Post by Berserker »

been playing fine for a few months, then last night started having issues.

closest thing i can relate it too is heavy lag, char will stop moving then when log out and log back in it takes ages to get to the game screen. and times out.

happened again this morning worked fine for 30 mins then started having issues.

observations.
at same time as problem i cant access uoex portal suggesting its a conn issue
pinging server comes back clean when it happens
internet conn is clean no issues when it happens.
running it under uo steam, but get same issue if i run straight from client

any ideas guys?

Same problem here, started last night. Looks like the server's working, but occasionally not sending any response to the client. Portal's not accessible during those times but the latest (including anything I type into [c ) can be seen on the main website.

*EDIT*

A bit more info, internet connection working well on anything else but the game client and portal on Excelsior. Client cache, hard disk cleaned and anti-virus ran from three sources, installed Avast! from the hard disk, stand alone Kapersky from write protected memory card and F-Secure's online scan tool. Network diagnostics done and no down- or upstream problems detected. Also, it's not script related as before the last night ( around 11 pm GMT+2 ), I had ran the same scripts I'm still running, but the same problem still occurs even if I open only the client and nothing else. Can happen almost right after a fresh boot or randomly maybe around 1-3 times an hour. I do admit that it might be an ISP related issue as they're trying to run router rules trying to shrink the bandwidth of the peer-to-peer users to "fight against piracy" as they say, but the bandwidth usage for simply playing Ultima Online is rather low in the end, so I doubt that unless they've screwed big time with their routers.

It has been better today, though. Not that many lag-like freezes, but still occasional random disconnections, so I'm leaning towards the international connections being the issue for me. They did dig up one of the main fiber bundles by accident few days ago, so it might be related to the ISP trying to fix that and all the re-routings they had to do during that problem.

Same issue here. But I find out that there was packet lost while pinging the uo-server. But this concerned only shard.uoex.net. I tried several ohter server without any issues.

There is a post I put out on the help area about setting your settings to use Compatibility modes for Win xp sp2 or 3 and also running all of the programs you use for UO as administrator. Make sure that all of the programs have both those settings and it should help.

Running all my UO related programs as Administrator and under the compatibility mode for WinXP sp2. As for now, I haven't seen any lag-like moments nor been randomly disconnected for several hours, so I'm quite sure it was just an issue with my ISP's offshore connection repair as I did find out that they've been re-routing their connections during the past few days. Hasn't affected on on-demand short connections, but more so on always on type connections.

So, unless nothing has been done server side, it was simply an issue my ISP had with their offshore connections, I'd say.
