Hi there (few questions from the new lad)

Post by Timmatt »

Hi all,

Just joinned the shard yesterday. and have to say thanks to everyone to making me feel welcome. I have only tried a few of the other shards but this shard by FFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR is the best.. and to be honest.. I not looking for another shard anymore haha. I like it here.

Just got a few questions though.. its been 6-7 years since I last played UO, and to behonest.. I think I have forgotten nearly everything haha..

so here goes.
What is normally the best way to raise the base stats? I know that some AFK macroing is allowed (ill try learn that bit myself via razor lol not to keen on the idea of it. since if you get a whole server full of it.. it dosnt make it that much fun.. plus kinda takes some fun out of the game).. But if you have any tips on how to raise the old STR.. DEX.. and INT. that would be ace.. (oh yeah. I know rule that only 1 stat can go up every 15min).

Do we have a map that shows where all the shops are and stuff round Brit? My tom tom dosnt cut it really here.

How long does the old "YOUNG" status last for.

Is there a new player guide / tips page where a returning player like me can try and refresh my mind haha.

Can you store items on a pack mule? (its something I never worked out when I last played.)

and a real simple one.. How do Recall Runes work. (i never went down the magic route when i played. but i hear they are very handy)

Many Thanks again.

I'll do my best to help, and even though it won't be that much, other players shall surely give help some more here:

What is normally the best way to raise the base stats?
Macro skills. Knowledges, magery, necromancy and such for int; stealth, hiding and stealing for dexterity; and combat skills, mining and lumberjacking for streght. And since you can't actually macro gathering resources, you can just keep on changing punches with the npcs in the training room.
And don't worry about macros in the shar. The idea is that UO is a game that appeals mostly for veteran players, and since we have already trained too much the skills and stats, we get to macro them here, and enjoy our time online better. But we can't, for example, macro to make gold or resources - so the economy is still based on efforts, and not on the time each of us can macro per day.

Do we have a map that shows where all the shops are and stuff round Brit? My tom tom dosnt cut it really here.
Most of our shops and npcs in the cities are where they were supposed to be, according to official UO - and, therefore, stratics maps. So, you can guide youserlf by those maps. Just google it.

How long does the old "YOUNG" status last for.
21 days, if I'm not mistaken.

Is there a new player guide / tips page where a returning player like me can try and refresh my mind haha.
Try the wiki section. There're a lot of nice tips there. The forum, in the sections dedicated for doubts and help, also has a lot to offer. And, finally, you can always use the chat, where we usually have helping players.

Can you store items on a pack mule?
Single click it once, and the menu will show as bottom option "open backpack". And for just storing, you can simply drag the item to it.

How do Recall Runes work.
First, you gotta mark a location. Go to the spot you want your rune to recall to, use the spell "Mark", and that's it. Then, you can use spells like Recall, Gate Travel, Sacred Journey and others on it (target the rune you wish when the spell asks).
You can rename the runes by double clicking on them.
And, most important, use rune books, which can carry 16 runes for you, are blesses, and have three spells options: recall, gate travel, and sacred journey (my favourite).

Any more questions, use the tip above about rusty players. Or pm me - I'll be glad to be of service.

hi i'm new here as well;

by tom tom did you mean uo automap?(because this is really useful) it's on the download page somewhere.

also if you're going to train things that require reagents and this also includes chivalry (get the book in luna from the paladin) it's free of any cost if you have a full lower reagent cost (lrc) set (it's a modification on armour or jewelry)

ow and a small addition about young status - this will be automatically removed if your skill total goes beyond a certain limit (happened to me.. it could be 700.. but might have been 1000..not really sure)

don't really know if you remember but there's uo.stratics.com, it won't cover all the customs on this shard. But it does inform you about tons of things.

have fun mate :D

Was just kidding about the tom tom. just my sense of direction is SOOOOOOO BAD.. plus just remembering where to go to pick up things. took me a while to work out where to buy some of the basics (like cooking pans and stuff). haha

changing punches with npcs? is that just get in there and leave your character there punching him in the face for a while?

Yeah. can understand the thing about using macros for gold. the last thing you want is everyone doing that. it would be terriable for the economy. Only reason I would do it is to build up teh base stats so I could focus more on playing the game :D

ahh Thanks for the tip on the rune book.. seems like they are a must buy.. like i said I never got round to getting one last time i played. seems I`ll have to build up some magic skills just to use it though. that should be fun.

Lol Now I know how to use a pack horse.. my lumber jack days should be even better.. at present my str is quite low. so carrying the old logs is a bit tricky.

Hi :) Get a saw and under other you can make the logs into boards which are lighter to carry :) As soon as you are able to collect a good amount of gold get (1) a house or plot on the house tool sold on architect at carpenter shop (bank holds 125 items); (2) again collecting gold get all the crafting keys-both regular tool house and runic tool house-spellcrafting keys(free at minoc moon gate)-portable forge. #2 is very costly but worth every bit of gold :) Pack llamas and pack horses eat fruit and veggies but dont carry too much at a time so need to do taming-lore-vet and get mules and cus that carry more. Mules eat raw meat and cus eat fruit--both are great fighters and can be maxed on stats to fight better :) If you see me in game and need more answered I'll be glad to help or send you to who can if I dont have the answers. This shard is basically same as when UO came out but with the custom items that werent out then. Kinda like falling off a horse or bicycle and getting back on :) While you are still in young status be sure to go to newbie dungeon and do the quest there. The npc is just past the imps and you can sell the organics to other players. The going rate is normally 100gp per organic and can do the quest every half hour. If you use your dagger or a knife on the rats you can also sell the leather. Above all have fun

The codex says the only thing you can't do is afk macro resource gathering, weapon leveling, champ spawns, and fishing. Feel free to use them otherwise, the UO interface is as clunky as it can be. We have to help make up for that with macros and things and there's nothing wrong with that.

Even if you do macro something that you can make gold at you're not going to make enough to surpass what someone who is actively playing could make.

wouldnt macro fishing and other gathering tasks be quite tricky since since:

1. your bag would fill up VERY quickly. and would end up not moving.

2. it would be tough since the resources are limited at a certain spot.. i dont know if u could macro moving and what not.

think thats just my view really.. but oh well :D

Macros can be extremely extensive without too much difficulty.

But you can macro them all you want, as long as you're at the keyboard.

yeah. normally at the keyboard anyway great thing about UO is that it runs on my laptop.. (well.. would do if I hadnt left it on a train on monday). So while im building a stat one machine. I can use my other to browse the web / work.

logged on a bit this morning. to try out some punching the npc in the trainning room and was shocked to see it was filled up with horses having fights with all the NPC`s haha. guess they needed to work out some stress haha

Ever since Blacthorn was banned from Excelsior due to this being a friendly and familiar shard, Lord Brit, having losing his hobby, became depressed and reclusive. Thus, you wont see much of him.
