So I palyed UO way back in 2000 or so. Lots of fond memories so took to opportunity to play again. Thank you for a great server.

I've been following the wiki and building up my stats and skills. A few things I've not managed to work out...

Firstly how to people talk in the bottom left corner? Like a shout? I see people communicating through it yet no idea how to respond.

Also I'm having a tough time locating any not rubbish armour? Obviously I'm poor, I do the rat quest to get some money but with my basic armour even ettins kick my ass despite being almsot GM weapon/mage/bushido. Any tips?

Thanks!

your main short-term goal should be to get the 220 dex suit as described in the wiki. It might seem long and hard at first, but later on you'll see how relatively easy it is to farm some gold if you put enough effort into the game. you are doing the right thing by doing the rat quest. you should also level up all your skills to 100 (or 120) simultaneously. Non resource gathering or gold producing skills can be trained AFK so make sure to do those when you are asleep or away. get a starter pack of mules and nobles and go do the noob champ and some easier tram dungeons to mix it up a bit. also check out ETA guild, which focuses primarily on new players between 0-3 months of account age.

i hope this helps. i'm sure others will provide more tips. good luck and if you have questions [PM Alejandro

Howdy,

In my opinion...

Your first goal is to get a set of halfway decent pets. Watch the pet donation chest and see what folks drop off. Let the pets fight for you; they will be much more powerful than you for some time. 500+ HP, 500+ str, etc. Your HP is what again? Pets will help you get gold with something approaching reasonable speed. More, since the monsters attack the pets instead of you, you will live as long as you can keep them healed regardless of your armor.

If pickings are slim in the donation chest, I have good starter pets in the 5k-10k gold range at the "public" Britain moongate. You can get 5k gold just by leaving yourself logged in -- there's a "power save" every day which either gives 1k tokens or 5k gold to every logged in player. You can also vote for the shard daily and get progressively better rewards at the vote stone at town center.

Your second goal is to get to 120 taming/veterinary/animal lore. Then buy a team of maxed mules or noble steeds and let them fight for you. This will make it possible for you to win against balrons and champs, increasing your options for getting gold quickly.

Your third goal is get get the cloak of mists and sash of fog in mistvale. These are only winnable in the first four months after creating your account. These will help greatly with the fourth goal.

Your fourth goal is to reach 220 dex, but unless you donate you won't be able to afford the fourth goal until after achieving the first two. Figure 5mil - 10mil gold. And until you have a few relayers (long term goal) you'll likely continue using pets for most of your fights.

Somewhere between goals 1 and 2, you will probably buy a house. As you can afford it, it's also a smart idea to set up bee hives. Bee hives supply an easy flow of gold, and they also provide wax which you need to make pet leashes which you'll want to shrink your pets.

I don't recommend being overzealous at the rat quest. There are plenty of easy ways to get organics later on and the amounts you get from the rat quest don't sell for all that much. They're also pretty worthless until you've built up 4000+ luck and can make decent bioengineered pets. Since you can only get to around 1700 luck without spending 100 ED ($10) per 100 luck it will probably be a while before you do any of that. Instead, if you can build up to a team of noble steeds before you time out of access to the new player champ, you'll be able to solo the new player champ and earn much better rewards.
