House placement clarification for staff

Post by Iago Venport »

Hey staffers...first off you all have been awesome with all the work you've done to help me conquer luna and the surrounding area *innocent whistle*. Love all that you've done with the shard over the past 5+ years I've been here.

I had a question about placing houses however. I'm super old school UO...played beta, was in chessie and placed a zillion houses and the same rules there apply here except for one thing I'm unclear on:

On this shard if I personally place a house I'm able to nudge up to another house and leave 1 tile of space between the two on the east/west sides with 5 tiles of space north/south.

Looking at the wiki however and having a GM help move/place it states 6. The house cannot be too close to other houses, even if they are owned by the same player. There has to be a 2-tile walkable gap on east/north/west sides, and a 5-tile walkable gap on the south, between any two houses.

I understand this is probably for yard wand purposes, but it's a bit confusing especially if that 1 tile can make the difference between an awesomely placed keep/castle/whatever vs a sandstone cottage that I'll die alone in. ;)

So the question is which is it...I guess the answer is...both? :)

You are correct, player placed houses follow different rules than staff placed houses.
If you place it, there can be less space than if staff assists you.

If you are willing to pay for room, you can attach them, making it 0 spaces in between them. I didn't have room for a 3rd 18x18 beside my other 2, but once I attached them, i had the room, as it freed up 2 spaces. If they were north-south, i would have freed up 6 spaces.

Thanks Miranda, trust me I'm all over the merging (check out NW and SE corners of luna!). Just odd there's different rules but I get it...although I still ask...why...whyyyyy won't you hug me Requiem!? :lool:
