Lumberjacking Help

I see there have been changes to lumberjacking. Am I following this right?

To put a log onto keys, it has to be made into boards
To make a board you need the carpentry tool
To make a colored log into boards (Yew for example), you need a certain level of carpentry
When I try to change the wood type in the carp tool (to Yew for example) , it says I do not have the skill for that.

So I have to work carpentry along side with lumberjacking to make the higher logs into boards to put on the keys?

You can also use an Axe on the logs and it should work fine based on your Lumberjacking skill

I will have to try the axe. Someone told me I had to use the carp tool, but I cannot choose the wood type until I get higher levels in carp. Thank you
