I'm having a bit of trouble raising my res. I've heard you can cast weaken/clumsy on yourself to get it going, so I bought up to 32 from a trainer to try it out.

After about 10 minutes of casting, I realized I wasn't getting any gains, so I pull up my skill list, it shows Resisting Spells as 0.0, unless I click show real which shows it at the 32ish I bought from the trainer.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? I took off all of my gear to try it that way, and there seemed to be no change.

i know this may seem like a silly question. but the skill isnt locked is it?

you have protection on, it lowers your resisting spell by 45.

Ah! Thankyou! Protection, apparently, was on!

Protection lowers by 29.

just tested again, goes from 120 to 85, wich is 35 :-/ But obviously, the point was him asking why he would not gain, protection was correct and solved his problem.

i think inscription is tied to magery spells in this case.. it's potency

at gm it gives a nice 10% spell bonus on assault spells .. and also influences protection, reactive armour and magic reflect

/shrug, I go from 120 to 91 with protection on, no bonuses on any of my gear towards resisting spells.
