Well, they're still "there", just not the "there" you are. They will go wild and release themselves in a day or so, otherwise you'll have to go back and find them. I usually run in a spiral type pattern and spam all follow me to find lost pets.

To spam is to keep saying, "All follow me" is to make your pet follow you, so TsiyaAma is telling you to run around while saying "all follow me"
That is if you know where abouts the animal could be.
Or simpler, You can use the pet summon stone located in britain, But it does cost you money.
