Hi, ok first thing make sure your client is 5.0.x version. If you somehow patched to 6.x then it won't work.

This chat experience you speak of, was it over the regular UO client, or was it over the portal?

This is my son, Coli. It was through the portal on the Main Web Page. He could download Warcraft and log onto the forums (as you see here). He created this account to make this post. Very odd for him, though. He is on a Navy base In Hawaii. He was able to log on that same morning and the day before from the same location and his wireless monitor tells him he has a full signal.

Well then, welcome :)
Maybe he doesn't have connectivity with the shard.

Darwin, go to Start -> Run -> type "cmd" and press OK.
In this DOS prompt window, type this:
ping shard.uoex.net

If it says timeout, that means your ISP can't get thru to the server. Let me know what you find out.

I can't log on either. I tried pinging the server and it returns fine.

*EDIT: Razor problems it seemed ;)

What was the Razor problem? Maybe Darwin is having the same difficulty.

Hmm, ok:

- Is your client compatible? If uncertain, i suggest downloading the 600mb file from our frontpage.
- What browser are you using? Might be the reason why the portal doesn't work as well.

I know per my instructions, that he downloaded the complete file from Excelsior's Website. It is the only version of UO he has on his computer. Using Razor and the UO Icon that is created on the desktop, he cannot log on. We verified the line of type on Razor and the port number with what I use to log on with and they are identical.

Only thing I can imagine is that it might be because he is on a secure Naval Base in California. Where is the Excelsior Server? Could there be some kind of Wireless Firewall that went up between him and you?

I am curious, also, to learn if there are any log in attempts that show in the logs from his account. There should be one from about a week ago where I logged on and off to make sure it wasn't the account. I was successful, so this tells me there is something with the connection between him and you, I think.

Two more things to try out...

1. Try connecting to shard.uoex.net port 2593. That's the default RunUO port, and although we use 60 as default, that 2593 also works for compatibility purposes.

2. If using razor, try playing with those "remove client encyption" settings. There's 2 checkboxes, try connecting with different variations of that. And i suggest you go into the UO excelsior's client folder, and into the RAZOR HOWTO folder, read the readme.txt there and try applying those registry files.

Otherwise, well it's very possible that the naval base has things more secure. Perhaps they block all ports except for those very known and easy ones, such as port 80 (http), 21 (ftp), and the email ports. The solution to that would be that we would run the server on port 80 (might work with that), but the problem is that there's already a http server running on that port on our server. Also, their security system might check if it's the right protocol running on port 80 - so that if you try looking at websites it would work, but if you tried running something else through port 80, the security system would recognize that it's not actually a website and would block it anyway.
