As a Palladin, I used to releish the chance to go and help/aid players who have found themselves in a tight spot, usually after they bit off more than they could chew against a formidable foe or impossible odds. But now, I am ashamed because I usually turn my head when a call goes out and just wish them luck. Today I decided to help again and ran into the same old thing that made me quit helping rescure the unfortunate. But, I want to help, so I am going to provide a little set of rules and tips that I think you should follow especially if you want me to go and help.
1. First and I think most important, learn stealth before adventuring into the unknown. Trust me, your pets will not always protect you. You may need to be able to get back to your body unseen even if help has arrived. Your rescuer may only be able to rez you and then distract your killer so you can take advantage of the those precious moments.
2. I can't stress this enough, download UO Auto Map and link into the server. Directions are posted on the web site. A lot of us are able to track you down quicker this way, especially if you die in the Lost Lands and Felucca.
3. If you do not have UOAM, then please, please give as much detailed information as possible. What landmark are you near; what facet you are in; E,N,W,S of entrance, river, town etc.; and what level when in a dungeon.
4. Very Important, please stay where you say you are! Nothing frustrates a rescuer going to a spot and not finding anyone there.
5. Also very important, please say what killed you! Doesn't do your rescuer any good if they get surprised by 2 paragon balrons and die right along beside you. (This happened to me and found out that my rescuees had already left. And yes, I died.)
6. When rescued, I think a simple "Thank You" would be nice to offer to your rescuer.
When calling for help
Re: When calling for help
Very good set of rules and fair I would think. The Linking up in UOAM I tried once before didnt work but now I just did it and am linked up and will be whenenver im on for now on. Thanks!
Re: When calling for help
ya I completely agreed with this... I was dead going to the wrong teleport to Bushido Dojo. I was surrounded by like 4-5 red samurai and almost killed instantly. After calling for help, Reese and Sir Tiger responded quickly and helped clear the area within 1min. (basically when I teleported right after them and all red npc were dead on the spot...)
I am still puzzled how it was done

Re: When calling for help
very good set of rules. uoam doesn't work on my pc. vista 64 bit <----crude. i have window 7 on the other part. <---better, but it also has problems with uoam. too bad the admin can't let us have the .where command so we could at least give you xy
.
sometimes you get sick of always running somewhere and no one is there. i hear you, but at least some good players remember how to help. i haven't figure that out yet. :Þ

Re: When calling for help
In fact I'm on the same issue you have with UOAM a few days ago. I'm using Win7 rc7100 (already have bot the retail copy but no time to deal with it)
I was always stuck at the download / full version of the map and aborted. At the end I used my secondary PC (winxp) and downloaded the UOAM maps, then just copied everything to Win7 and worked like a champ
