Looking for a little help

Hi... I'm fairly new to the shard. Last time I played UO was about 10 years ago. Still learning about all the new things but have the basics down.

I'm looking for some suggestions on strategy. I'm a little befuddled about the pricing of things... for example 100K for a powerscroll is apparently "cheap". I know I could just start a bunch of chars and farm organics but I really would rather play the game.

I have Razor and UOAM. Most skills are GMd or can be fairly easily. Except for taming. . never was much for taming. Any suggestions on how to get to the place where 100K is cheap?

Train taming using the brushes. Save up some money from killing things like deamons or even blood eles with cheap pets.

If you have arounf 150-200k you can afford a decent (maxed) pet. I would recommend buying one or more from Highrollers pet store, which is one of the vendors in TC.

Meanwhile also train either vet, magery or spirit speak, so you are able to heal your pets.

Once done, farm balrons in Blood dungeon for example ... great for making money.

Welcome to Excelsior! Now yes, it is very easy to get to the point where 100k is cheap. here is the link for the crafting skill that Adin was talking about.

Oh, and one thing, DON'T forget to use the [claim or [claimall commands! you get a little gold each time you claim a corpse. And as much as you may not like it, farming organics is a great, quick way for new players to make some gold. You can also just save the orgs for your own use later on. The new player champ spawn is another great place to make some money and the hone your skills a little more.

Thanks for the tips. My character is no longer young so some of those things I can no longer do. I don't have anything against farming organics per se I just want to learn the game.

So basically from what I gather so far it sounds like it is pretty much useless to hunt without a pet. Or rather there is nothing worth hunting that doesn't take a pet to kill?

And no, it's not useless to hunt without a pet, just takes longer to get a lot of gold until you get the better gear. Oh, and while your at the wiki take a look at the section about leveling weapons. That is a necessity for hunting stronger mobs without pets. And forgot to mention, the 'young' status has nothing to do with being able to use the new player dungeon or champ. You have 30 days on your account age to be able to use them.

Thanks that link works fine! My account is actually older than a month so noob spawns are out.

My thought process was that I would do BODs to get some Fletching and LJ powerscrolls and then roll out some petrified bows until I get one that I want to level. It's been a few weeks of BODs though and nothing has turned up. I've had three shots at a powerscoll but didn't get it yet.

So far, other than farming organics, it seems like escorts are the quickest way to make cash. Any thoughts on hunting grounds?

depending on how good you are and what kind of gear you are using there are plenty of good hunting grounds. You can go to twisted weald and make some pretty quick money. Poison is bad there though. Um, you can go to the citadel and kill ninja's for some easy money. Oh, and the noob champ is just a MoA champ. There are 3 others that you can go do still. They only spawn every six hours or so. Really it all comes down to your playing style as to were the best place to hunt without pets is. With pets, have fun at any of the peerless areas and blood dungeon. I'm not sure if you know this but crafted weapons only give 3 points per level when you add a level deed to them as apposed to looted weapons at 5 points per level. Personally I use Hanzo's Bow but you will see a lot of people using the Horselord to level up. Search around here in the forums and you will see many long discussions about what the best weapon is to level. Don't forget that we also have the taming bods here too. Even if you don't do them, you can save them and sell them.

So it sounds like leveling a weapon from scratch turns out better in the end then trying to craft one and going from there. Those bows sound interesting.. I was looking them up on UOGuide... it says they only spawn during "Treasures of Tokuno" events. Is that the case on Excelsior? Or do they drop all the time?

I guess that leads me to the subject of tokens. I'm having a little sticker shock there as well. I have been placing all the junk loot I receive in my token backpack and as of yet I have only accumulated about 20K tokens so just wondering how to speed up that process as well so I can afford a lev weapon deed, etc.

Well for tokens. You should get some form of amount of tokens from just about everything you kill. Besides animals like sheep cows etc... if you are in need of many tokens at once you can buy from player at 3gp per 1 token example 100k tokens(weapon lvl deed) for 300k gold Yes i know it sounds like alot at this point but once you start hitting the champs and killing many monsters you will realize they quickly add up. For now I would suggest getting a pet or two to start your hunt for gold and tokens until you can afford to either make or buy yourself some good armour and weapons. All of which i can help you attain when I am online if you would like to [pm Phoenix I can most gladly help you with some armour and weapons and even pets if needed. I do recommend getting a cu as it is a fairly strong pet even when not maxed and has a backpack to carry all that gold you will now accumulate. I do as previously mentioned recommend raising veterinary skill to heal your pet and to ressurrect if they do die. Just keep in mind that it can only be ressurected if it was bonded. (you can buy a bonding deed from the stone at trinsic bank for 6000 tokens, can feed a pet then stable it for a week then take it out and feed it again for it to bond with you at 30gp per day) Another thing i can help you with if you are unable to get it. Thanks again for all the advice! I'm now at the point where I can farm balrons with a pack of maxxed ostards so the gold is coming by a lot easier!

I am now more curious about the champs.. I got my but thoroughly kicked by the Blood Clan even with my pets! Any advice on how to go about it? Do I need to have a cu? What taming level does it take?

I have also been trying to get my hands on a horselord bow. Sometimes it seems like I get artifact drops pretty easily and other times it seems that nothing happens. I have been hunting ninjas at the dojo. Is there anything I can do to move that along a little faster?
