Few Questions about Spells

Post by Harlequin »

Hi there, started playing a day or two ago and have a few questions regarding spell mechanics.

1. Wither - is this affected by SDI? After some lazy testing it seemed I was doing the same damage with or without SDI. Also it looks to me that wraith form/vamp embrace does not give you the mana leech off wither, but would be nice to be confirmed :)

2. Are slayer books functional? As in they work as they should against monsters of corresponding types to magery spells? I ask this because I haven't come across any pure magery characters - is this because being a pure mage "doesn't work"?

3. Ferio - is this affected by SDI? If not does spirit speak affect damage dealt?

4. What are the SDI / mana regen / mana bonus / int bonus caps per item? I ask because I've seen some jewelry go past standard OSI caps on items.

5. Mana Regen - stacking this results in diminishing returns, but what about separate instances of mana regen? Do these stack linearly? (e.g. lich form with items)

6. Druid spellbook - is this available only through donating?

Thanks, hope to see you all in game :)

1) yes sdi effects it. life/mana leech don't work with spells

2) no

3) yes

4) http://uoex.net/wiki/Levelable_Weapons. some artifacts may be higher

5) mana regen is additive.

6) you can buy a druid book from another player or by acquiring the EDs in game off [exex for example and buying it from the stone yourself

As far as I know, as with most things in UO, it is all seperate instances stack additively and the final number is calculated through a formula to determine actual regen. It is through that final formula that the effectiveness of stacking is reduced. (I feel that the chance to get the higher loot table on mob loot through luck is the only multiplicative process in UO)

Not sure if that is exactly what you are asking but in other words, if you are at 30 mr2 via 15 pieces of mr2 items or 30 pieces of mr1 items the resulting final MR is the same.

HOWEVER and this should be tested. I do not believe Lich Form gives you mr2 in the form of adding a static amount of mr2 to your charstats. It is my understanding that being in lich form grants you a static 13 mana every 10 seconds.

It is my opinion that SDI doesn't actually effect the Smite spells (Ferio) damage, and that it is purely the Spirit Speaking skill that does. Do remember that Cleric spells are custom built, smite being the only actual offensive spell on that list, and may not follow the same rules are necro and mage spells do. Druid spells, though custom built, or revamped, are derived from an existing formula crafted by the makers of UO. Though I highly doubt I am wrong in this, I could be, because my information is based on many old school players who helped answered this question for me long ago.

Sounds right, but don't forget that the bonuses from the Focus skill and a persons natural ability to regenerate mana will stack with this spell. The meditation skill might also further the regen possibilities before diminishing returns.

One other thing to note for mana regeneration is the armor type you're wearing, which can hinder the meditation skill and a charaters natural mana regeneration ability.
Criticism is good because it improves upon what came before, and solidifies the strongest of foundations.
