I've been mining for a while now and never got a ML-gem.
Recently started lumberjacking too and to my surprice i get ML-resources (like switches/bark fragments and stuff) very frequently.

Is there a reason we do get the ML-resources from jacking but not from mining?

You can get teh gems from mongbats/earth ellies/etc, fairly random but easiest way to get them is to hunt the desert outside garg city.
