hey guys just curious if anyone is running easy uo on ubuntu and could help me out. tried running it in wine and have messed with winetricks some but I am at a loss. anywho thanks for the help in advance.

Okay so Ive updated to ubuntu 12.04 and now I cant get anything to work with wine... hope someone can help

I had issue getting it going myself. Ended up using this for the dot net install. Seems in most scenarios this is the issue anyway.

Installation­­

Install .NET 2.0 SP2 prerequisite:
Run the .NET 3.5 SP1 installer:

well that got me to the point of easy uo running but it cannot find the client i am assuming i have to manualy point it to the client but I dont know how. Imma try a few things and see if it works

Hmm, recently I was just using PlayOnLinux, and that seemed to do the hard stuff for me. But of course, the obvious next course is to check that Razor and the UOEX Client is installed in the same wine container:

so home/user/.wine
Odds are if it's all mounted right you could just be able to set the client location etc, as you normally would in razor from your 'emulated' C Drive.

Also, dont use ctrl in any macros if you do it working. Causes all kinds of crashes at times!

Essentially says:


1. Get Wine Windows Compatibility Layer, either via System-Administration-Synaptic Package Manager or Add/Remove Programs (Ubuntu Software Center in 9.10)
2. Once it has been successfully installed, install winetricks using the following command via terminal:
wget www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
3. When winetricks is saved, run the command "sh winetricks" in a terminal.
4. A menu will come up with options to install.
5. Choose the "dotnet20" (.NET 2.0) and fontfix.
6. Follow the menu instructions.
7. After both have been successfully installed, download the Razor installer and UO.
8. Right click the installer and choose "Open With: Wine Windows Compatibility Layer".
9. Install both programs using that technique. When this is done, patch up UO to the required patch.
10. Run Razor, but most likely you will find the port box to be gray.
11. DO NOT WORRY! There is a fix for this.
12. Connect to an EA shard. You do not have to log in, or anything else. Just connect then exit.
13. Run "wine regedit" in a terminal.
14. Select HKEY-CURRENTUSER, then Software, then Razor.
15. Double click on the "LastServer" file (this was created from connecting to an EA shard-thus making step 12 necessary). (The credit of this step is given 100% to Blacula)
16. Change the value of it to whatever you wish.
17. Run Razor, input the server settings, and voila!

yeah i got razor to work fine its easy uo that im having trouble with now. basically I can open a new client with it but if i open a client outside of it it wont recognize it. also if i OPEN A CLIENT WITH THE NEW CLIENT OPTION IT FREEZES UP.

Must be having a brain fart week.

AFAIK the UOXL options never work in Linux. At least I never found an solution.

OK basic checks again

Have you added the UO Registry entries?
Have you CHMODed EasyUO correctly to allow read/write/execute? [Mainly this is as EUO also uses the system reg iirc]
What location have you used for EUO? [Fake wine container obv. c:/EUO or something?]

Seems that for somereason when you use UOXL to fire up a new client (odd that you need to unless your using 2 shards ofc) it's having issues. Try running them using the sudo command in a terminal emulator [xterm or so] and see if it's chucking out any major errors while the crash happens.


I'm not the best with it, but last time I was playing UO on my old (now toasted) netbook with Xubuntu 12.04LTS I nust admit I had no issues with EUO at all.

The other thing that just came to me also, check winehq to see what the best version of wine to use actually is.
Last install I used I had about 5 different versions of wine installd using diff wine containers as some newer versions caused issues certain software, or some older versions just ran older games faster.
