Enhancing Question

I was just trying this out to get a feel for it. Crafted a regular (non-exceptional) gnarled staff and a regular tetsubo from regular logs, then set my carpentry menu to use Oak, put 100 Oak boards in my backpack, and tried to Enhance both of them. Both times I got the message "This item is already enhanced with the properties of a special material." What am I doing wrong?

I am not 100% positive but I am not sure if you can enhance crafted items. Try enhancing a looted staff and see what happens. Also, I have enhanced several metal weapons and with 198 smithy skill I had about a 75% success rate. When I tried to enhance at the regular GM level I destroyed the item every time. Just something to think about.

Thanks for the reply Cygnus! I tested a few more items and I believe that it's impossible to enhance most, if not all, crafted items here. Since there's no guide in the wiki and almost no discussion about it on these forums, I went to official UO sources for information but it appears to be server-customized. It'll take some trial and error to figure things out, then. Thanks for the tip about your own experiences - funny thing, last night I tried enhancing looted female plate with gold at 92.8 blackmithing skill and succeeded, lol. Must have been a one in a million shot. :D

Well, you jarred my memory. I have enhanced looted high luck items (90+)with the appropriate metal or leather and had success with it though failure was common, especially with the leather since I do not have much in the way of a tailor suit like I do in smithy. I think the higher you go with metal, leather or wood type, the harder it will be to enhance.
