Stuck in full screen mode

The damn kitten decided to sleep on the keyboard last night. Now the client is stuck in full screen mode and I can't get it out of it.

Windows 8, which I curse more and more each day.

sounds like you should be cursing the cat, or the human that let the cat sleep on the keyboard

Did you try (in UO) going to options, clicking on the eyeball icon, and unchecking the, "use full screen mode?" you will have to log out, and exit the client and log back in for it to take effect.
I also chose the resolution 1024x768, but some choose the larger size to run in.
I chose the game play windows size as 800x600

Again, after you hit apply, you will have to log out, and close the client, then re-open and re-log to see the change

Also to keep in mind: If you are in UO, ALT+Enter will change your screen back to full screen mode. It's a built in shortcut combo in UO, and has nothing to do with Windows

Already tried that.

It's Windows 8 that's doing it not UO (Ok, partly that UO is so old) As evidenced by logging into my sons account and it being the same. Anything that was a UO setting problem should be limited to my login on this laptop, not any other login, or my login on a different computer.

Stupid thing computers. Nearly every solution started with "First plug a keyboard into your tablet"

Fixed.
I ended up taking the compatibility mode back to win 95.
Restarted UO, which appeared off screen
Used the mouse over tool bar trick to minimize and then maximize the client (alt-space should get the same menu options)
closed it and reset the compatibility to what it was before.
