As I've said before I have never had a sterile pet from breeding, I rarely have higher level pets not want to breed either except for some fire steeds that took 5 tries. Have close to max mules, cu's, nightmares, some white worms, really don't remember the rest offhand. I have said this before and really am sorry that others have the opposite. Though I'm sure that after saying this my luck will go to dirt for a while just so I feel the pain.[/quote]
If you haven't had any sterile pets especially both babies from a cross come out sterile then count your blessings. The steriles seem to come in clumps, ie none for a good while then 50 to 100% are sterile in one claiming session.

Re: Breeding Fail Rate
if you havent had any problems yet its because your not close enough to max yet. I am managing some back breeds etc, but seriously struggling on those pets that are "max" or within about 200 points of "max"...
If you have yet to get a sterile pet, as High said, count your blessings, i am even getting the occasional sterile pet from gen 1/9 backbreeds, and that hurts.. usually if you get a sterile from a 4/9 - 8/8 breed you have something to fall back on, but when they come early it stops the entire line and you can only hope that the one you did get has 2 breeds so in a week and few days you can breed it again and end up with two to continue with..
Why continue with something that has become so difficult?? because its why i play. i don't hunt, i dont do the quests etc.. i cant, arthritis and busted up/missing fingers dont allow me to move fast enough when theres an emergency, or just a desperate need to be fast. Sometimes I get brave and try if i have someone else there to rez me, but in general, i breed, I mine, i raise bees, and i do bods for my "entire" income on the shard. Bods bring in a little, most of the other crafting i do also brings in a little.. but very little, 20 to 40 k a week. bees helps, but the majority of what i make to support myself is breeding. So when it gets harder to breed, it directly impacts the best money making business i have.
thats why i keep doing it.
People get mad because I sell mules for almost twice what max nobles are going for.. I have also been yelled at for selling mules for more than Blaze Budd...
First, max nobles vs mules;
Nobles dont use magery, they dont need mana, inteligence maxed, they also have less str, and less dex, all to the tune of nearly 2000 points less than a mule.
2000 points, is at an average gain of 120 points per breed, 16.6 breeds/generations. 17 more times yo have to breed/level a mule to max it, ( Edit; I have been corrected, this is not taking into account back breeding, in total your looking at about 45 generations WITH backbreeding to max a mule) while a noble is already considered maxed. Now if you also consider, Mules have more points, and so they are also harder to breed, the higher the points, the greater the chance of failing. Add in 17 more breeds, then you also add in more sterile babies that you have to go back (if you can) and re breed to get a pair, more failed breedings so you have to wait and try to re breed the next day etc etc...
Blaze put a LOT of money into oints for his baby mules, we figured it out, and he will have to sell somewhere around 120 mules JUST to make his money back... blaze is doing it for the fun of it, and he is getting some of his investment back, and he is happy with that... i am cool with that as well.. he is having fin, and it IS a free market.. however, i am doing it to make a profit.
between RL and other difficulties, it took me a YEAR to max my mules. SO!, I will sell a total max mule for 500K (all stats at breedable max) An Uber max mule will cost more. If that makes you unhappy??? I really don't care, don't buy them. If i cant make money on them, then i will just quit selling them, thus ending my ability to make money, and play here.
With the difficulty in breeding i feel even more justified in my prices.
Not so long ago, what some people "called" a max mule was selling for 750K, i can name names if necessary... and people payed for those "max" mules... Even then, i charged 500K and made some of those other people unhappy with me... back then, i was selling for what i considered a fair price/profit without raping anyone, and it was appreciated... today, i have become the bad guy for selling my mules for the same price that once made me a hero.
Organics are worth about 100 ea, ED is worth about 25k ea, Nobles worth about 250k ea and mules are worth 500k ea. if you all want to yell about something, go yell about the price of organics and ED, and leave the breeders to their tedious onerous tasks

Re: Breeding Fail Rate
ten attempted breeds last night, and ten again this morning, all failed. only 4 of those were total max, 4 of them were 2/9 backbreeds... 2/9 backbreeds shouldnt be failing in 8 attempts..

Re: Breeding Fail Rate
Was thinking about this and read through some of what others said. When I breed I breed more then one type and different levels gens. When I get a breeding fail I have been switching to another. I'm not going back and quoting but someone was saying fails are cumulative as are success so perhaps that is the difference. Before it was just because I wasn't in a rush or found something interesting/new. Now I've had 3-4 breeding fails in a row with the same set of mules(I will say with higher Cu's I haven't had this happen) so I will go in and when they are off the delay try again. If they fail I will then do a fue days worth of something else and then try them again.

Re: Breeding Fail Rate
well.... afaik.... it isnt cumulative.. its based on total points.. pets like mules that need "all" points maxed to be considered max will have more total points than say a "max" noble that doesnt need mana or intelligence etc maxed... but I havent seen the code either..
