Rat quest

First of all, thank you for this great shard! I played UO ages ago and it is good to be back.

I'm having a bit of a problem with the rat quest, though. When I kill the 20 or so giant rats, the game prompts me to return to the apprentice. If I do so, nothing happens. When I talk to the apprentice, he simply tells me to kill another bunch of rats. I do not receive my reward.

Am I doing something wrong here? Any help would be appreciated.
