I can vouch for that. Luckily had my unicorns all maxxed before the fail rate epidemic started. Now i'm lucky if i get 1 pet to sell every couple weeks, and then it's barely to make 100k on it. Cause who the heck wants 2 slot pets anyways, other then the novelty of owning one. (yeah, i personally like novelty also, and have 2 unicorns to hunt with, but i hardly ever use them)Highroller wrote:Lord knows we cant make it even remotely possible to max spellcasting pets that probably won't sell anyways.

Re: Odd trend in breeding
Tonight my last 2 claim deeds got turned in by my Highroller character. Ie I failed EVERY time I tried to cross anything for 3 days. As it so happens The 2 crosses I tried just after this, one worked so 3 days from now I will get another pair of pets. Lets see average 2 times a days so 4 pairs. So in 3 days I had approx 12 fails in a row. Like I have been saying the fail rate is wayyyyyyy out to lunch now days. Now of course I just gotta wait and see if the one gen 7 is sterile. The gen 10 will be sterile by default.

Well 9 out of 10 crosses failed again. The nerf is alive and well.

Re: Odd trend in breeding
I'll say it again: The more maxed the parents are, the less chance that the breeding will succeed. It's a soft cap. Try breeding a pair of freshly tamed horses. You will succeed 99.9% of the time.
Also, the taming system has been unchanged for a long long time now.
As for sterility, it's unrelated to the maxedness (is that a word?) of the pets. So I think here you have a case of bad luck, like some people who craft the mobile forges and resource keys, they might fail just 20-30% of the time, while others fail on average 4-6 times in a row before making one.
(Not going to look at this thread anymore.)

Re: Odd trend in breeding
Sorry bad luck doesn't cover getting massive amount of steriles 8 times in a row on back breeding a line. I time, it happens, 2 times is bad luck. 3 times is real bad luck. 8 times is wayyyyyyyyy past bad luck.
So you don't fail on 2 fresh tamed horses, Not much market for fresh tamed horses or even gen 2 ones. 90% fail rate on maxed pets is too high in my estimation. Hell I failed 6 times in a row on 2 gen 2 white wyrms. ie 1 generation out of the wild.
I STILL don't understand the push to make pet breeding so painful. It sure as hades isn't game balance when you have hordes of imprisoned pets on the shard...
For whatever reason the intent SEEMS to be to make pet breeding so difficult people give it up. If the idea was just to push up the price of pets its not going to work as long as the price of imprisoned pets continues to come down.

Re: Odd trend in breeding
As far as I can tell breed pet prices haven't changed much since I joined the shard, they took a slight dip there for a bit but now back to where they where originally. So yes I do agree and know from personal experience breeding does seem quite a bit tougher (I don't sell though), it isn't enough to change the market price much.

To be honest, mate, trust the guy who can see the numbers directly. They don't lie, but Luck can be a fickle mistress.Highroller wrote:Sorry bad luck doesn't cover getting massive amount of steriles 8 times in a row on back breeding a line. Now, though, to ask since I am new: Does maxed out refer to the thought of being level 1/X? Or is it a number referring to the highest level? Do you need to spend ability points on a pet before breeding, does it make them any better? I do love taming, but I'm new to the Shard and the concept of it and information on the wiki is a bit light in this regard. I'm not looking for any responses of "It isn't worth it!!1" since worth isn't what it's about, but any tips or tricks known to help get better results that might be hard to figure out without word-of-mouth?

Maxed out refers to the pet's stats (HP,str etc). The maximum stats can be found on wiki.
Failure is not an option, it's a standard.

Re: Odd trend in breeding
When I say maxed out, I mean 1000 hits, 1000 str 250 dex and just in case 500 stamina. If its a spell caster then 1000 mana and 750 intelligence also. It can take a LOT of generations especially when you get to generation 9 and have to back breed to a lower generation because generation 10 can't breed. ie you take 2 gen 1 pets train them to max level. Apply all ability points breed them. Train the gen 2's apply pts breed them and so forth. When you get to gen 9 I usually breed the gen 9 to gen 1. Throw away the gen 10, breed the gen 2 to gen 9 and then the gen 3 to gen 9. the gen 4 you get should be about as good as the gen 9 you started with. Then breed 2 gen 4's and work up to gen 9 again. Repeat until you get pet where you want it. Can take months and a LOT of gold.
Just to make life even more wretched I got 4 more steriles in low generationss. 2 in nobles and 2 in savage ridgebacks.

Re: Odd trend in breeding
Don't get me wrong, the overall sterile rate may be averaging out at the specified 5% but when I get clusters of sterile pets at a 20 to 60% rate in 8 to 10 back breeding cycles its wayyyyyyyy beyond bad luck. Like I said 1 time, it happens, 2 times its bad luck, 3 times its REAL bad luck. 8 to 10 times in a row then something is broken. Broken to the point where the intent seems to be to make people stop breeding pets. With or without intent that IS the effect. The only reason I started back breeding was stubbornness. With the continued difficulties in breeding and the abundance of imprisoned pets its not like there is real gold to be made in selling maxed pets anymore. At best its an expensive hobby now.

Re: Odd trend in breeding
Yup I am having so many fails trying to cross pets I have at least 1 character maybe more with zero pet claim deeds on hold ie have failed every cross attempt for at least 3 days if not more. Each of my 5 characters make 4 to 6 attempts per day normally so 12 to 18 fails in a row is getting up there. I certainly don't expect to have 0% fails but I also don't expect 100% fails or so near 100% it might as well be 100%.

Re: Odd trend in breeding
And just so you don't think all the problem is trying to breed maxed spellcasters, Today I failed on 12 swamp dragon breeds in a row. As stated before, in my opinion, the fail rate is out of control. Wayyyyyy out of control.
